I don't remember it as being very rocky, in fact it was exactly the opposite and very muddy so armour probably isn't essential but there was one section that involved riding in a deep rut with a barbed wire fence about 3' to the left so a decent jacket made a very good comfort blanket.
Once it's dark it doesn't matter because what you can't see can't hurt you
Dawn to dusk enduro
Re: Dawn to dusk enduro
Reading the link above, you wouldn't know anything about flashing red lights... presumably this is covered by the line "This event is run in accordance with ORPA Standing Regulations for Hare & Hound type events."
A quick Google reveals this OPRA handbook:

Re: Dawn to dusk enduro
I've not done the event but I have rode Walters arena a lot of times. Rocks, trees, mud, hills and wire fences could all feature. It just depends which route they run for the event. There is a quarry area that could be quite rocky and there are some pretty steep rocky hills they could include. But it could be all mud and shallow river beds on the other hand. I've ridden long fast ascents and near vertical ones around there. That said, never seen huge rocks and personally only ever had arm, leg and back protectors on when I've ridden and never felt I needed more. Cracking place for an event, enjoy it and good luck.
Re: Dawn to dusk enduro
I'm sure that if someone were to volunteer to help setting out the course at the back end of the week their help would be welcomed and they'd get a sneaky preview. Whether or not a preview would be a good thing is an entirely different matter because if I'd known what it was going to be like I wouldn't have used my Tenere for it a couple of years ago.
Re: Dawn to dusk enduro
The rule about the flashing light wasn't in the regs last year either, but you had to have one. In fact they had to delay the start because lots of people didn't have one and had to go back to the paddock for head torches etc. So just get one, you WILL need it. Amazed it's not in the regs this year really but just trust those of us who are saying you need one.
Also, armour: offroad bikes in a racing environment = armour and proper boots. If you are in the big bike event you WILL get caught by the small bikes. there is some narrow stuff and the fast boys will not give you any quarter - you must have full armour and you must have full moto cross type boots. Anything else is really asking for trouble.

Re: Dawn to dusk enduro
Good boots and armour will help!
The red light is a must, or you'll not start, but all that's been said.
There are plenty of rocks, especially in the tight rut bits where you (well, me) can't ride round them. Holed my Vara sump last year.
I'm out to play on the Transalp again this year, should be fun! Come and say hi in the pits, big green dome shelter, couple of stools and a table. (And maybe a pit crew?)
Now, when I get back on Friday, what do I need to do to get ready?
