I have a pair of audi canyon gtx boots that i have commuted in for 3 1/2 years. They're starting to look like they're coming to the end of their life but still very comfortable.

However I will be getting a pair of altberg hogg boots for my forth coming round the world trip.

All boots leak if your out in the rain long enough. I now ride in some 36 chinise made ankle type boots really comfy and warm but they leak answer.10 gortex sockets waterproof warm washable breathable and you can get several pairs for the cost of a pair of boots.
Best boots ever old 80 's alpinestars so comfy like slippers. Every other boot has not been upto the job hence the 36 quid chinise one. They are now 8 years old amd still going strong. Oh dubbing for walking boots really helps as well.

I need some waterproof winter boots and I like the look of those Altbergs.

When it comes to boots I always remember the time I ended sliding down the road with my foot stuck under an XJR1200. I was ok because of the boots I was wearing. Do the Alt bergs offer good protection?

Not that I ever intend to do that again of course

Yep altberg are very well built and although not tested by me, anecdotally do well in a crash. This is the area where buying cheap may be a big mistake. How well will crap boots fair in an off ?
I have ridden for 8 hours in rain in both the daytona and altberg and neither leaked. In an off i would rather be shod in the altbergs

With only few exceptions you get what you pay for. Buy cheap buy twice and all that

I agree. I had these for about 8 years before they started leaking. They used to be called Non-stop GTX but virtually the same boots with a name change. I commute all year round used them in all weathers. Now I have the Alpinestars web gore tex and they're holding up pretty good. Comfy to walk in and completely waterproof. At about a third of the price of a Daytona at just over a hundred quid I think its not a bad buy at all.
