Dead arse after 1 hour

Post by tiger800xc »

Looking at getting something done to the really uncomfortable seat on the tiger 800
after only a short distance the discomfort is unbearable, my butt goes dead and the top of my legs start to go dead :(

I have tried the gel seats and they are rubbish
So my question is is it worth sending the seats away and getting them redone?

+1 for the Airhawk , l use one on my DR800, the standard seat can only be compared to sitting astride a curb stone :S but the Airhawk cushion turns it into all day comfy :)

I used to manage 30 miles or so before my body was destroyed on my F650GS, it was very uncomfortable.
I'm very happy to report 200 miles the other day on my R1200GS before the numbness set it.
I like the idea of an air hawk and have only read fantastic reviews of them.
However, what impact does an air hawk have on the seat height?
From the pictures I've seen, they look quite high

im kind of in the same boat as you mate on my Fazer....cant decided wether to get the seat sent aways and re-built with top quality foam or gel....or...buy an airhawk?

Theres pros ans cons to both.

also, do you carry a pillion? if so, how does they find the seat? if you buy an airhwak you'll be fine....but they wont...unless you buy two ;)

just remember they do add a little height to the seat height plus not sure how grippy they are for pillion use...we all hate being head buted by the pillion when braking. ;)

Air Hawk all the way...and if it does have an effect on the ride height simply soften the shock off to compensate.

1 option...and maybe not the cheapest would be to buy a second seat and have some padding taken out so with the air hawk on it will not effect your ride height.

I got a gel seat pad from Dan Medica South and was initially disappointed. But it has worn in and is I now never get numb, no matter how long the journey. It sounds like you have already got a gel seat so my suggestion would be to persevere.
