Currently I own an old transalp 600 vt, newly sprayed in black, with a new (too me) exhaust which scilly was so nice to sell me! :cheer: , its got a new cowel, new rear tyre, new break pads, rear indicators and other new and second hand parts put onto it. It is in much better condition that i got it.
HOWEVER, ive spent well over £400 so far on the ta fixing it, but still in need of 2 fairings, choke cable and carb kit, and will in the future need a wiring loom due to it being an ex police bike and a few other bits more than likely.
After spending so much already on the bike and with the nasty MOT up next month, which it should pass im wondering if i should sell the TA and buy a Honda Shadow that is for sale just down the road from me for a thousand pounds. Any advice is more than welcome!
Thanks, John
Should i do it?
Re: Should i do it?
haha more like a strong drink!
Been working on it with any spare time ive had in the last 5 months, its been off the road since october as mr insurance decided to quadrouple my quote!
I will upload some of the millions of pictures taken along the way to show the work done, need to re kindle my love with it!
Does anyone know where i can get cheap good fairings?

Don't be tempted by the dark side! stick with it, You'll get back what you put in in spades mate, they are fantastic under-rated bikes, wouldn't part with mine.
Re: Should i do it?
I did a similar thing a while back, bought a "Dragstar"
I know, I know!
Didn't last long, then I had to shell out for another real bike
My advice, Just stick with it, that first ride will have you grinning like a chesire cat

Thanks for the advice guys! I stuck on a tiny 500ml mini moto tank on it today and spinned up and down the road a bit, (the big tank fuel tap broke a few days ago. Another thing to add to the list) realising how much i missed that vibey 600cc enigne. :woohoo:
However, even with the smile back on my face, the thought of still needing a carb kit, new fan, new wiring loom, fairings and more than likely 2 new radiators, the shadow is still tempting me...
I know i will miss the transalp, but the cost is getting to much. Being at college and working 2 days a week its stretching the budget a tad to far.
I am going to look at the shadow tomorrow and will let you's know my thoughts!

Re: Should i do it?
dont be tempted by the dark side mate
after all the work u already put in, u might regret not seeing it through to the end..
theres always the option of buying the other bike (funds permitting)an making the TA a longterm project therefore giving you more time to search for parts an possibly savin a few buks
had similar issue with a bike an lookin back i kinda wish i had of just kept it an finished the work myself and been able to enjoy the bike for myself

The dark side is tempting thow....
That is a good idea! I must mention that to the parents for their expert advice on the subject!
The ta600 is my favourite bike so far, and it would be missed greatly, just the cost of keeping her on the road!
Does anyone have any knowledge on the honda shadow 650's? I will be using it to commute, snow rain or shine, so any info on them is welcome!

Better the devil you know! At least you know what needs to be done to the TA whereas the shadow might look appealing now but in 6months down the line when you're stripping it down and doing the same old jobs you might not be so pleased with yourself.
