KTM 950/990 header pipes

Post by Richard Simpson Mark II »

As you may know these are no longer available as original parts. A Greek company called Doberman made a batch in stainless steel a couple of years back but have now sold them all. Doberman is in the process of closing its business;
I am trying to gauge potential demand for getting a fresh batch made in stainless steel by a respected manufacturer here in the UK. I'd estimate a potential 'factory gate' price of £300 - £350. They would have a 10 year warranty!

According to 'How Many Left" there are only 37 KTM 950 Adventures up and running in the UK with another 36 SORN, plus 98 990s taxed and a further 54 SORN.

Right then...

The supplier is very interested in helping.

Before they can give an indication of cost, they need to see a pic of the pipes demounted from the bike.
I'm prepared to pull mine apart, but not until Autumn
Meanwhile, does anyone currently have a 950/990 Adv in a state of disassembly who could speed up the process?

Just for clarity, these pipes will be in stainless steel and made in the UK by a highly-respected specialist motorcycle exhaust manufacturer.

I have for the moment left the question open as to whether I would commission a limited batch, buy them all then sell them on, or just facilitate the manufacturer to produce them on an own-account basis and leave the sales and marketing to them...although I would obviously assist them by gathering sales leads.

At the moment I am focused on the pipes...there are legal implications with producing silencers that I'm not keen to be involved in. The manufacturer may be able to do something if people are interested in a stainless steel replication of the original cans, but they would have a defuser baffle and probably be louder than the original and lack the catalysts.

I'm not doing this to make money, I just want to keep as many of these remarkable motorcycles on the road as I can.
