701 Warped Tank

Post by Scrumpymonkey »

New
So, just searching the internet regarding warping to fuel tanks on the 701/ 690 and understand that with ethanol additives to fuel, this can lead to water absorption and warping of the tank.
Has anyone had any success with realigning their tank? I'm wanting to fit an Outback Motortek rack and the left side of the tank is warped meaning the boltholes are about 20-30 mm out of line. The right side is fine.
I've tried leaving the fuel cap open in case it's a vacuum issue but there is never any indication of a vacuum when opening the fuel cap.
Is this just a matter of I'll have to replace the tank with new? Any suggestions welcome.

There is a solution: remove the tank, drain it and leave it to dry out in a warm and non-humid location. It should revert to its original shape. That's wisdom from the Aprilia RSV forum.

Ethanol is a pain. I have to wrestle a bit with the tanks on my old 950, the tank on my RSV is swollen. Petrol 'goes off' in my two-stroke garden machinery etc etc. Still it keeps Greta happy and the price of food up, so it's all worth it!

This ought to help sort things out, both my MV & 701 get a dose every time I refuel. (bought online)
