How much to cross Africa?
Anyone worked out how much it would cost to cross Africa lately? I've just been reading that the estimated budget 5 years ago was £4000 (plus bike)

Re:How much to cross Africa?
That could be about right depending on route and time taken. I took 5 months coming up from Cape Town and was spending about £600-700 per month. This included visas, Brits need about 8 to come up the East route at about $50 each, some were more. The ferry across lake Nasser, the Med and the Channel, my share of the guide through Libya,
not to mention travel insurance which is expensive if you want to be sure of being covered.
Budget for a couple of sets of tyres in that and servicing if you cannot do it yourself.
These are all costs above everyday expenses like food accommodation, and petrol, which was about 65p a litre in South and East Africa, getting down to 8p a litre in Libya, not to mention the odd beer or two.
Add to all that the cost of shipping to or from Southern Africa if you are not making a round trip.
This was 3 years ago so is not too out of date.
