i knocked this together for servicing the bikes cables
you could call it a prototype but it only took ten minutes ...
bits required or used ...
one peice of tube from the top of a scotoil bottle or similar
one small peice of hosepipe
three jubilee clips
insulation tape
one bycycle valve cut from old tube
plumber tape
the pictures pretty much say what to do
once the cables free i just bound it with insulation tape and a slither of plumbers tape ...i left it in place after id finished for next time
fill the main hose with oil ..the cable nipple will just slide inside and clamp
i used a compressor around 6 psi ..and i tried a bycycle pump to and it worked fine ...about ten seconds later the oil is through ....
im sure i can make the mark 2 a bit better looking but it deffo works
well (thumbs)
..never have much luck with the airosol ones seem to have trouble with the seal ...
make a cable oiler ...
Re: make a cable oiler ...
Will give this ago Steve, I usually make a bag funnel and tie it up with string to the shed roof and sit in shed drinking, waiting for oil to appear from bottom, thinking about it I might stick with what I no:)

Nice job (thumbs)
I usually just cut the finger off a latex glove & tape or cable tie it around the sleeve and make a little funnel. The forced method is no doubt quicker though.

Re: make a cable oiler ...
The only thing I would be careful of is checking that the bowden cables are not lined, the metal cable with coiled metal sheath are ok to oil, but mineral oil can make the lined type swell and cause more friction, a PTFE based lubricant is
better .
better .

Re: make a cable oiler ...
Got another option that is not so inventive... I have a hydraulic one I bought at the "car boot" bit of the BMF years ago that cost less than the Jubilee clips that does the same job... just a bit of billet clamps on the end of a cable usually still attached, with a hole drilled in for the red tube from an aerosol with lubricant. Just give it a few squirts and work the cable a few times until the bottom end looks wet... job done...

Re: make a cable oiler ...
that seems a lot of trouble to go to to oil a cable?
i dont get on with the aerosol thing either, i undo both ends of the cable, put a bit of poly bag and duct tape round the top with a bit of engine oil in it, and wiggle the bottom end. let gravity do the work, takes about 1 min to see oil at the bottom

I never oil my cables I find a sticking throttle is good for the heart,
not so good for the pants mind.
