ABR Forum - Pay As You Go?

Post by johnnyboxer »

Following on from my other thread about Forum slowness, it was suggested that what do we expect when it's free?

That's just a red herring and smoke & mirrors

Sure Forum Templates cost money and Bandwidth is expensive, for Alun and the ABR gang

However if the Forum was upgraded to a reliable platform with commensurate bandwidth so all was tickety boo, I would subscribe and pay £10-£12 to support this forum, every year

How abiut the rest of you?

Yes or No?

I'd rather not pay to use it..but a model such as on the XT660.com forum might work where those who want to pay can.

If you make everybody oay then it will frighten the lurkers off. I know at least 20 people who come to this sight daily but are not memebers for various reasons.

So yes i wouild pay a few £ to support the site but as a voluntary thing only.

I wouldn't pay tbh, there are plenty of good free forums around, I like this site and love the mag so hope it doesn't go paid.

The triumph sprint forum is a £20 subscription to access the whole site, I won't pay there either, I don't need the other stuff it offers, the oracle mothership is making some big money off these subscriptions.

Interesting you mention Oracle...their licence and supoport costs are huge and i mean huge. People moan on here about getting faster tin or network bandwidth to make this site faster....all of this is not that expensive but the software support and licence costs are ongoing, never decrease, will go up, you can't do without it and a complete rip off IMHO...and i do this stuff for a living.

Oracle have a mission to rip everybody off that they can.

I don't think paying is the answer, too many other free forums out there to choose from,i think having to pay would significantly reduce its popularity,i find most days its fine, but i agree that at times its takes a while to load a page and not being able to delete a post is a bit odd.
