£70 for a bit of sheepskin !!!!
I only paid £4 for a piece of black sheepskin fleece , about enough to cover the riders part of the seat, from a sheepskin factory in my town.
But i have since had the seat re-modded with more foam, which has made it flatter and higher. A furniture upholsterer did it for me and only charged me £30.
Only took him half an hour to remove part of the vinyl, put three different density's of foam in, sculpt it with an electric foam cutter, and staple the vinyl back on.

I used one of those gel pads in my 950's seat - but in the end I supplemented it with a sheepskin and all was well.

If using the gel be sure to get the covered one as the 'raw' ones are biatches to handle.

Sheepskins - if you get a proper one - will be more or less waterproof, it's the highly treated decorative ones that are less water-resistant. Mine is natural and as the fleece part is really curly and dense it gives a surprising amount of support. If it gets wet the moisture usually just sits on the top and can be brushed off leaving it virtually dry. I've seen guys with what look like goat fleeces on their seats - not worth a light IMHO.

YMMV of course...

i bought a air hawk back in 2003 ..

its since been on lots of bikes sometimes permanant
sometimes just for
long trips
i think perhaps if you think of it as long term investment the outlay will not seem so bad
they are very easy to attach to ..or swop over

it makes a real old boneshaker [enfiel bullet ] in to a little mini armchair

the idea is to inflate it through the two way twist valve then sit on the bike ...deflate it slowly with the valve until it feels right ..

you find theres hardly any air in it at all after that .. a big bonus on taller bikes the seat height remains unchanged
..what happens is under the cover there are about 14 connected air pockets ..as you move it redistributes the air ..to the point support is needed
the other big advatage as it keeps your ass cooler when its hot as air can circulate between the pods [its pods ]not your pods :side:
id recomend one without reservation i think they are a great product

its currantly being reincarnated on me tenere .. probably again for longer trips

belive it or not thats what it looks like when inflated and adjusted

This looks very like the one that you can get from M & P. I tried the M & P one and it made things worse for me. I took it off after about 60 miles and did the rest of my planned 1200 miles on the standard seat. I am now looking at a seat rebuild, such as the multifoam one mentioned above.

I will look back through my posts/replies hereas someone did mention a seat builder nearish to me (SW) and i'll post it up.
Cheers
Matt

I usually just stand up for a while when my bum goes numb.
Does anyone know whether its legal? If I'm likely to get a fixed penalty, then I will purchase a bum soother. ;)
