And who says the hole in the back wheel is a BMW "feature"

As far as i can see a hollow axle is the only way you can use a paddock stand on a single sided swing arm bike, don't all single siders have them?

Having now owned both Beemers and Triumphs, i don't give a damn if one copies the other. If a product works of course you are going to get copies from competitors, it's good business sense.

I'm sure the talk at Triumph (or Guzzi, Ducati, etc, etc) went something like "GS's sell in large numbers, so people must like the way they look, ergo let's make our adventure bike look pretty much the same, just with a few of our own features"

And didn't BMW try and cash in on Street Triple sales by producing the F800R? OK they didn't really succeed in the looks department. Funnily enough Mrs MC had an F800R but this year chopped it in for the real thing, she loves her Street far more than she did the Beemer.

Then again you could say that Triumph were there years before BMW with the off road style road bike:

To be honest I think the biking industry drives each other on to copy an idea and improve upon it. Long may it continue :)

I do think electric bikes may end up the domain of scooters, and Diesel keeps being mentioned as a viable long distance bike engine. So much so that even BMW hinted this summer that they are looking at bio-fuels such as Diesel for their future. Its going to be an interesting time.

Cheers :) Oddly Triumph themselves have only published a boring teaser photo on their website. Keep trying to capture it on camera when it appears through here, but so have have two blurs on the camera phone. Will get there eventually  I want a closer look at the shaft drive which is strangely avoided mostly in their photos
Presume the shaft unit will be the same as the Trophy 1200.

and different from the Stelvio (which works very well):

Yes (how DARE you!) - but it is nicer to ride so I don't care. It also feels both narrower and shorter than the GS which is a good thing for most of us. I expect the Triumph to blow both into the shade, performance-wise.
