Go to a dealer. Knock a BM over and pick it up.
Do the same at a KTM dealer.

Make sure the fuel tanks are full, with the caps open, before you do so. It will be interesting to see the variation in the size of te puddle on the showroom floor. If you have time before you leg it, get a picture for us!

I've only owned a 1200GS (back in 2006/7) so I won't comment on which bike is the one for you other than to say get a proper demo ride on both. And if you can take it out for more than an hour then so much the better.

When I took out the GS for a demo ride I asked if I could get it dirty, they were quite happy but asked me not to drop it  I took it on the motorway, A roads, B roads and back lanes and four or five (easy) byways... well it was on troll wings and took it back nice and muddy ;) And obviously I bought one.

Personally I think I might go for the KTM these days but I wish they would do a 690 Adventure, then it would be a no brainer.

i test rode both and got the ktm.like has been said depends what you want.i knew i would likely only have the one bike,so it had to make me grin and had to be good touring and being a hoolie. The Gs does what it sez on the tin,but for me was too heavy and a tad boring.the ktm was light, felt like two bikes in one a tourer and a motard. The final decision was simple i was grinning ear to ear for hours after ridng the ktm.
test ride them both and some others. Its the best way to decide, but dont buy the actual bike you test ride, after all you have just thrashed it within an inch of its life:laugh:

I test rode both over the last month (KTM - Premier Bikes Didcot) (BMW - North Oxford) and decided on.....

A Super Ten from George Whites - all 3 bikes were great to ride, I just picked the one I liked the look of best. Pick it up next Friday - very exciting.
