High Atlas Traverse

Post by Chris S »

Just back from riding most of the High Atlas Traverse, a new 900-km trail from the Tizi n Test to Midelt.
Download it for free right here: https://transmoroccotrail.org/high-atlas-traverse/
The H.A.T includes the highest rideable through-trail in North Africa, peaking at nearly 11,000', and once it gets going, never drops below 5000'.
Even in the good conditions we had, parts – particularly the steep switchback ascents – are ill-suited to giant, wide Advs, unless of course you're a great rider ;-)
The H.A.T runs far from the tourist traps so fuel stations and lodgings are spaced out; you'll probably need to rely in village fuel until they finish the new station in Agouti (Stage 2/3). Or of course you can camp anywhere. Bring a hat.
We couldn't quite finish it before the snows came down. Maybe you can.

Thanks, we'll be having a good look at that later.
Reminds me of a trip where the local tree planters carried our bikes across a washed out route followed by much tea sharing.

Would it be at all practical using a s/car rig, specifically a CRF1000 & Ural?

Sorry, I don't know the capabilities of such rig but I imagine in some places TC on the back would help.

Sounds like it would be fun, what spec is it. Our enduro outfit would work well in the terrain but have no idea how yours would work, have you done any dirt road travelling with it.
