Coleman stove issue?

Post by SteveR »

I dug the "trusty" Coleman stove out earlier in the week, and was chuffed when she fired up almost immediately after a VERY long gap. Running on Aspen petrol, so clean as a whistle.

BUT.... there is a leak on the control valve when it's under pressure. I see there is a tiny little oil seal (viton?) so I cleaned to make dure no grit but still leaked. A furtle online, suggests that the whole valve mechanism can be changed, but at a cost. Seems a shame to chuck it away, but 30+ quid for a stove that only cost me about 40 years ago, seems daft.

Anyone know of a fix before I bin it, with regret, and go all gas.

you could try valve packing if you can find some small enough to do that but its not cheap so would probably be better to buy a new valve

Cheers, as you have to buy a whole new valve assembly, it is not realy cost effective, so I'll drain it out and put it on ebay as a spares or repair. It'll be useful for someone! :D

Good site that, thanks.

They have the full assembly, which is the recommended fix for this type of leak. I thought it was just the viton seal, but apparently not... :(
