Honda CRF250L

Post by snifflytooth »

I'm selling my Honda CRF250L as it is. It has been a labour of love modding this bike to get it where it is today, many many hours of research and many hundreds of pounds. I bought it to commute on and have done in all weathers. I've recently started to do a few green lanes with a couple of workmates on KTMs and the compromises of a Dual Sport is beginning to show.

If the bike doesn't sell, I'll return it to as near stock as is practical and sell all the goodies separately, that would be a shame as everything you want and more is already fitted.

2 keys and all the paperwork from new. I have a couple of service kits and the very comprehensive Service Manual which will go with the bike along with all the original parts.

Cash on collection £2350 ovno The bike was on FleaBay, that was the winning bid, but it turned out as a no show! My local Honda dealer reckons it's worth £2000 totally stock and £2600 with all the mods, so I'm looking for a quick hassle free sale.

13 plate with 23800 SMILES on it. When the bike first came out, Honda sent 12 to Dave Thorpe off road centre. He chose 8 and the other 4 went into the dealer network, that’s where I bought it from (Bob Minion Honda Derby) without looking I think I’m the 2nd owner. The bike went back there for its 600 mile service and has never been inside a dealers since.

I’m an Engine fitter for Rolls-Royce building jet engines, I have done all the servicing, modifications and repairs to the bike. I have kept a ‘diary’ of everything that has been done to the bike, I’ve missed about 6 fuel fills but absolutely EVERYTHING else has been documented. It's a bit anal but I think it more valuable than a service book with what would be 3 or 4 stamps in it.

Honda recommend 8000 miles between services, mine has never got anywhere near that! To start I used Castrol, that used to last a few thousand miles and needed changing (the bike tells you when it needs new oil, the gear change goes ‘clunky’) I now use Motul - without looking I get a lot more miles between services now. I’ve only ever used Honda parts from the local dealer.

Mods.....

Stock the bike is errr... lacking

From the front in no particular order

Michelin Anakee Wild. Front about 50% rear about 75% worn. These are 50/50 tyres and have been great. Dry/wet on the road, not too bad off road.

Heavy duty inner tubes

Recently fitted front /rear pads

HEL braided lines front and rear in black carbon with red fittings. I’ve fitted a CBR300R front master cylinder - better feel

Bar end mirrors fitted in the original mirror position

Honda bar pad

Oxford adventure heated grips

Polisport hand guards

12 o'clock Labs DRDSpeedo corrector (adjustable)because the gearing is now Renthal 13 teeth front 41 teeth rear (ideally should be 42 but didn’t have in stock last time I changed them) DID gold chain

EJK fuel controller (adjustable)

back fire screen taken off the stock air filter and snorkel taken out

Yoshimura full system - the end can currently has a dent in it where the bike fell over. There are no creases in it so if I get time will repack the box and push out the dent.

EBC Clutch plates (CBR300R) with upgraded springs

recently checked and adjusted the valves

bash plate

Zeta chain guard

retractable gear shift lever

Yoshimura tail tidy with LED rear light

smaller flexible number plate

CRF Racing rear master cylinder guard. This is unavailable outside of Australia, a friends dad bought it for me and posted it here

I think that is it!

The bad bits...

There’s rust forming around the bosses where the pillion footpegs used to be and on the fork clamps. The clutch cover laquer is starting to come off and bubble. I haven’t done anything about it yet but it’s there, the bike is 6 years old and is out in all weathers.

The steering lock has stopped working

I gave the bike a quick once over at the weekend and a very quick wash. The exhaust is now metallic looking :)

One of the rear indicators had lost its cover on the pics but I've replace them with stock indicators.
