Travel insurance

Hi everyone, I am planning a solo trip to leave at the end of April and having real problems trying to arrange travel insurance. I am shipping my own bike a Husqvarna 701 enduro over to Panama. My route is to ride up through Central America, into USA and on to Vancouver in Canada, then across the Rockies and ending up in Montreal to ship my bike back home. I intend to be away for around 10 weeks. The problems I am encountering are as follows: I am 67 years old and quite a few insurers will not cover over 65 years old. My bike is 690cc and having difficulties finding cover as the bike is over 125cc. Quite a few will not cover for over 31 days. I am also finding that some will not cover off road riding Luckily my health is excellent and no restrictions here. I have contacted around 12 different brokers and no success so far. Can anyone recommend a company for me to try. I am looking for someone who is flexible and genuinely understands about motorcycle adventure travelling. I find that some will cover everything and then fall down because they will not cover one of my criteria. Hope someone can help me please. Steve

Brilliant news today.

Thanks to response from Zumtin - Horizons Unlimited is a wealth of information but their Insurance recommended supplier said I was too old !!!

I have tried at least 15 different companies for Travel Insurance and all without success as mentioned in my original post. Yesterday I had a positive response with OK To Travel T 01223 446 920 www.oktotravelinsurance.co.uk - I had to go through the process of answering all of the questions and they then had to refer the motorcycle being 690cc to the underwriters, and after 48 hours came back having agreed to provide me with Travel Insurance - Result !!! This whole exercise has been a total pain and taken forever - They seem to think that because you are over 65, Travelling to a remote region, on a bike bigger than 125cc that you are not worth covering. !!! Anyway they have been brilliant and for 3 months they have quoted £478 - (£5-30 per day) with their Premier Plus policy which provides peace of mind for myself and my wife that help will be provided if I need medical assistance etc plus all of the other associated Travel Policy necessities. Don't forget to print out the P{policy Wording (31 pages and thoroughly read everything - fortunately nothing onerous in there but so important to make sure that the telephone operator has not missed anything or mis understood your requirements ) Hope this may be of help to other aged adventurers !! Good news there Steve. A lot of things for the longer trips can be a bit of an assault course to get sorted.
The answer is usually out there as you found. £5.30 a day? Bargain! Less than a Starbucks coffee

Copan in Honduras is well worth a visit. I stopped in on there on my way south a few years ago. There is a ride report on here somewhere if that would be of any use.
