I've updated my page on do-it-all tyres: good compromise rubber for road and trail.
Also more serious off road rubber that works OK on the road, while it lasts.
Easy way to compare tread patterns – some will work better than others.
If the image below comes up too small, full sizes are on the links.
I had the Michelin Anakee's on my last 1200GS and must admit that I would highly recommend these to anyone doing "A bit of both" riding. Going on the green lanes they were very good and on the road I would keep up with all my mates on their sports bikes in the corners.
Cooper b motorcycles are stocking shinko 705 tyres for the Royal Enfield himalayan, not a brand I have heard of but apparently very popular in the US. They state a 80/20 Road bias and alternative to the factory fitted pirelli mt60s must say tho the pirelli have been great tyres, 5k in and no issues. Anyone else used these shinkos?
On my KTM 1190 Adventure I ran TKC80s. I thought they were not bad all round tyres but the rear wore very fast.
On the GS800 I had I tried the Anakee Wild's. Good in the dirt but I didn’t like them on the road. I also ran the Karoo 3's but they seemed unstable at speed.
I have just got a GS1200 adventure and it currently has Anakee 3's on. These are no good in the dirt so I'm looking to change them but not sure which way to go? The Motoz Tractionator get good reviews but are expensive with the rear coming in at £160.
Anyone got any real world experience running the GS1200 with 60/40 tyres?
I use K60s for their longevity - 10K miles out of my last rear.
As you say the Motoz get great reviews. They look to have a similar treat pattern to the K60s but the makers claim to use a very high quality rubber compound which enhances grip while maintaining a similar life span - user reviews seem to qualify this. The really interesting aspect is that the tyres are reversible and designed to be more off road focused one way and road focused the other.
I might try them next time to see if their worth the extra money.
