26 hp ? price ..tank range ...a puny 135w stator ..600 mile oil changes ..valves at 1800... blah blah

heres the irony ...i could take the 300 engine out of me 250l and put it in the 450l and have 20 percent more braaaap  wtf

is it a enduro bike ? well no even i can handle more than 26hp
adventure bike ? not in the way id describe one

it looks to be a very expensive trail bike ..with insufficiant stator to power heated grips ... ...im mega confused by what its supposed to be
Me too Steve - really underwhelmed by the weight v power spec and service intervals and overwhelmed by the huge price

I really think Honda have dropped the ball

A KTM 500 bike is cheaper and so much more with similar service intervals - except for trail riding these can be stretched

Hi Minky - don't forget the 450L is only 26bhp in Europe due to homologation rules... the rest of the world get a 45+bhp version (while apparently Australia also get the full-power ECU in a box with the bike ;o)

I agree a 135w stator seems small, but it doesn't need more than that to charge the battery and run the LED lights - it's a street legal enduro bike, just like the KTM EXC etc.

As for the Rally version in this thread - apparently the tanks offer 5.2 US gallons (so around 20 litres - 10 each side), and you can bet they've also uprated the stator (if only to around 200w perhaps) so it can power any additional navigation equipment easily.

To me, this looks like a fully street-legal consumer version of their factory Rally bike - ie. something more affordable than a full-on KTM 450 RFR that the privateer could race if they wanted.

Plenty of people already use a CRF450X with add-on tanks and fairing to good effect, and this bike being based around the latest EFi 450L means it's already got very good suspension out of the box.

I wouldn't be surprised if Honda release this on the back of a half-way decent result in Dakar this coming January... it's a shorter event this year, all in the Peruvian dunes - where traditionally the HRC riders have done well - so who knows?!

Either way, I imagine they now want to try and get back at last some of the money they've spend over the past few years with their factory Rally bike programme!

...it's a classic example of how Honda gets marketing wrong sometimes.

I've bored everyone before with the Melody v C50/70/90 saga.

I guess it goes like this ...
Honda had a successful formula in the C70/C90 for the working man commuting, since the 1960's

In the late 1970's the bring in the Honda 50 Melody aimed at ladies with a car licence - meaning they could ride the 50cc Melody

However Honda failed to realise that not many ladies wanted to ride a bike back then and so it flopped

Men wouldn't be seen dead on a Melody and kept buying the C50/C70 and C90 to commute to work on

Melody sales were crap as a result

The Honda is not even remotely a rally bike, not even close with its bog standard suspension and puny engine.

It's just capitalising on the fad for bikes that look like rally bikes, as all the newer adv bikes do.

I see there's a video of the yam on you tube:

For travel trivia fans it was shot in Morocco just west of rissani, that bowl was used for the mummy, also in the last bond film (the ornate thing above it is not real). If you want to go and ride around it and in it, you can find it at N31.29820 W4.40120

Have to agree with Mike, a lot of the new stuff seems to have "fashion statement" written in bold at the top of the design brief, twas always so to a degree.

Look more closely... it's a full-power CRF450L with twin 10 litres tanks and a nav tower:

https://adventuremotorcycle.com/news/cr ... ly-concept

Plenty of people compete just fine on a CRF450X with a 3rd party rally tank/fairing kit on it, Honda have basically done that for you - on a fully street-legal platform.

Whether it will actually come with the carbon fibre bits or cheaper plastic alternatives who knows, but currently what's not to like about this?
