I don't get it.

What is the point?

The rider is probably the most unstable thing in the equation so if they can stop rider input they can develop a predictable vehicle for 1 or 2 people that takes up less room on the road.
Sometimes I'm thankful to be mid 50's and experienced some adventure before it all gets overly sanitized.

An exercise in making a dull bike even duller. Hopefully they’ll manage to find a way to prevent the rider from fallen off the bike when they fall asleep through boredom

I think it's amazing I can now lay in bed on a sunny sunday morning, send the bike out to do my favourite run and just watch the video from the gopro when it gets back. Job done

now to sort the DR out to save getting wet and cold off road

What is the point?

If you watch BMWs own video about it, they suggest it is primarily testing similar technology to that which they increasingly have in cars - accident and collision avoidance etc. - ie. the bike 'takes over' to help prevent an accident:



...although how that is actually going to work on a two wheeled vehicle with a rider (and quite possibly a pillion too) on board I'm not quite sure... it's bad enough having a car emergency brake when it decides to - goodness knows how that's going to work on a bike, especially when leaned over for example.

pretty soon micro chips will be able to reproduce themselves,make tools to build factories,or 3d print them to just carry on replicating themselves endlessly and that will be it,because they don"t have imagination to want/need anything else.humans won"t be required anymore and seeing as future generations won"t have the enthusiasm or energy to bonk each other we will soon be gone as a species

I think they must be road testing them.

Last week coming off the ferry at Hull a GS decided to try and overtake the nice neat queue of traffic to get to the front before passport control. Here was me thinking it was an ignorant (insert expletive), but it must have been the bike working in German Towel Mode.

To be fair he did pull in behind me, though probably because he would have been into a fence otherwise (rapidly decreasing width towards a turn) rather than out of nicety.
