Mostly road with dry trails, I like the Meffo explorers. On tarmac, they are great wet or dry.
MT21s are a good all round trail-tyre and will cope surprisingly well in loose stuff, and even a bit of mud if you don't push it. I found the front wore quite quickly on the road; it was pretty wrecked after 2500 miles but I was loaded and could probably ride a bit more front-tyre-friendly to be honest.
That old "which is the best tyre thread" again.

Off-road, they don't seem any better in the dry than the Siracs. I don't know what to try next.wideparting wrote:tkc 80
sorry about that, went to morroco and back on mine and loved em.

On a light bike like the DRZ you have a huge range to choose from, I found the MT21 usable on a wide range of surfaces on my 950 but hated it on my DR350 so I ended up with an enduro tyre as it's a much lighter bike, a lot of people seem to like the Mitas army special and I've been impressed with the Maxxis IT but it's maybe a bit too off road orientated for the use you'll put it too. I also used the Mefo explorers on my 950 and found the back to be good but hated the front, maybe it is better on a lighter bike?

agree, great on & off road tyre, best to change rotation after a 1000 +miles to get the best out of them.Big Yellow Tractor wrote:Mostly road with dry trails, I like the Meffo explorers. On tarmac, they are great wet or dry.

running maxis duel sport on my xt660 at present & really impressed, cheap & decent off road, on road just as good.

Re: That old "which is the best tyre thread" again.
I had a pair of Anakee 3 on my F800, excellent wear and good on gritty forest tracks, hopeless in mud and on wet grass.
I'm now using Dunlop Trail Max on my CCM, very grippy on the tarmac, confidence- inspiring in the wet, good on wet rock, shale and forest tracks; I've just fitted a new one for my forthcoming trip but I've also bought a Mefo Explorer for when I return, it looks more off-road biased than the Dunlop and seems to have good reviews so we'll see.
What I would say is decide what nature the majority of your riding will be 90% of the time and get a tyre that suits that, the rest of the time, you'll get by even if it just about copes- as has been mentioned there isn't a perfect all- round tyre.

The mt21's are a great tyre on road, and I do all my trail riding on them on the xr400 and ktm 690, they are not an enduro level tyre, but a good all rounder, and last fairly well.

Just ordered these for my xt660 Pyranees trip in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping they're 'just the job' !!
