Remember Motorcycle Voyager Magazine?

Does anyone here remember the now very sadly defunct magazine that was Motorcycle Voyager?

The web site is now long gone and the first issue came out during 2003 and as far as I’m aware it only lasted some fifteen issues (2004) or so before it went into administration.

It was an exceptional concept and at the time, I think, was a fresh and bold exploration into the world of motorcycling and all it entails; trip reports, product reports, biker reviews and so much, much more.

Not so much an Adventure magazine but a wider view point on the whole biking (sub)culture, but sadly it went by the by and has now ridden itself into the history books of motorcycling culture, and with it my respects and mourning.

Anyone remember?

I was just about to open a new thread when this came up on Google! (it was posted just before I joined so missed it first time!)

I`m having a few days r&r in France, where most of my personal possesions are including my "cupboard of dreams" (full of mags,maps,pics,routes etc) & going through it yesterday found most copies (9 but I think Ive more) of MV. I`d completely forgotton about it. I subscibed at issue 10 then they went bust at 15! It was a really good read which left a big gap when it went pop. That gap has been filled with ABR+forum in the past year thankfully!
I did a google on the Editor and he went on to write a book about Business useing his experience of the failed mag.

So same question a last year:- Do you remember MotorCycle Voyager Magazine?

Think I saw that one but another excellent mag was " Motorcycle Tour and Travel ", I think it was a Stateside mag but I got it at the NEC and it had wonderful articles on travel all over the world and not at all specific to USA or Canada; tried to source it for ages but think it must have gone the same way as Voyager, real shame as most of what we have on the shelves today is about how fast and where to buy those matching leathers. That's excluding ABR of course ! Proper read ! Claire

It was before its time. UK was still largely sport-bike mad then.

I remember MV & ditto lost out as they went t*ts up.
as for Motorcycle Travel & Tour, or a another Mag called something like that.
It is sold in Tesco & i think you will find it is a UK based mag

To a certain extent that's the problem. Just not memorable enough. I've just come back from our family holiday in the States and spent a happy few hours in a number of bookshops / Walmart etc trying to spend the remainder of our dollars on the last day. Bike magazines were top of the pile of stuff to get but the touring ones were just boring- not enough editorial and the articles that there were were just not interesting. OK, it's aimed at american riders but my american rider friends think exactly the same. With performance bike mags or 1%er Harley stuff there's always a new camshaft / tyre / tattoo to fill up the pages but just how many articles on riding to the south of France (in MV's case) do you want to read.

I too remember MV and bought most of the issues but it was usually because it was better than nothing rather than because I really had to read the articles. It may have gone because of back office issues or poor business decisions but I suspect I'd have got bored with it sooner rather than later if it had continued

I think any new venture like this needs to embrace multi media (I am cringing as I write that but I still think it's true)This web site and forum add to the Mag and I find myself wondering if it will be available as a kindle download. Or is that a daft idea?

In agreement with the need for add-ons these days. Without this web site I'd hardly be aware of the mag although I've bought most of them via the shelves in WH Smiths. Only Alun will know how much difference the forum makes to his sales though, whether it's a costly drain on his resources and time that threatens to supplant the mag or whether it brings a degree of commitment, enthusiasm and involvement from customers that would be impossible to achieve in any other way Other mags seem to take differing stances - in the classic bike world Real Classic has a thriving web presence whereas Classic Bike and Classic Mechanics don't seem to be bothered with only vestigial or fan based sites. For some of the others a web site is something for the office cleaners to sort out with a hoover.

On the face of it a Kindle format download would seem a great idea but all that wonderful hyper saturated and hyper expensive photography would be reduced to a few black and white squiggles. As a recent Kindle convert I'm very impressed with the way it does Mills and Boon (or my wife is) but it doesn't do piccies well.
