+1 for the Mitas tyres, I went with the C02 and mine fitted the original wheels perfectly and just miss the rubber spring cover when new so all is well. I got the 110/100-18 as the original IPC were struggling with wet grass (thumbs). As for road rumble I've not found it noticeable :P even though they're a bit coarser tread than the E09.

I've also run a Pirelli MT43 on the bike and nothing seems to stop it :)

with the 644 can you crank the bike well over in corners safely ? talking about on road and obviously not wet! likewise with the E09 ...doesn't look like there'd be much tyre to ground contact when near the edge

they arnt to bad in the dry you can hussle along ..i use em on the ccm and they are ...ok no more ..aggressive cornering is not recommended ..of course the flip side is they work very well on mud and ruts and all trhat stuff ...when its wet you just need to calm it al down in the corners and they chug you along as well as any other knobbly
its a comprimise tyre ..arnt they all ..but if i used a k60 or karroo or stuff like that id be in a fair bit of trouble when it rains ...hour on hour i spend more time off road than on so it suits my application..there isnt any off road tyre that doesnt need a bit of restraint on the road ..

its a case of choose your poison ..age old problem betteroff road worse on road ..but the crf isnt a war machine so it chugs along pretty well with these on

I will do a quick 2000 mile review ..

2000 mile (amateur's) review of CRF250L

Engine .. trandles (sounds like) along ok .. but lacks power on and off road, unless you set your expectations lower, accept the low speed and poor acceleration, .. then it becomes apparent how easy it is to ride slow and easy.

Clutch .. I find the judder clutch thing annoying as it does not seem to pull well in slightly higher gears and makes a horrid horace clattering noise … but if you accept the short shifting it does keep you within the torque safety range for engine longevity, so I suppose it is a good thing, and helps to reduce chain wear and tyre wear. Clutch lever is easy and light and good for naughty bits. Will need to see how the clutch stands up to more use (stiffer springs, HD plates?)

Suspension .. performance not at all bad as standard .. and can easily be lowered (but care in ruts, and clangs stones alarmingly underneath, (probably easily made higher too? with kit) and is stable and not tending to spit one off (like the DR350 which seemed to have a high set steering column?) Got a feeling the rear shock may get softer soon, but may be wrong? Fine fun on road, very adequate off road.

Turning/handling .. on road the bike feels light and maneuverable and also off road, but its weight can be felt on naughty bits and if you get stuck. It is not a lightweight (145kg) but feels light most of the time. It is very easy to turn around on a narrow trail, due to lowish weight and its small turning circle (not like the TTR600). It rides lovely on tarmac, now I have increased the rake/trail slightly. No fuss off road, easy roller.

Brakes .. terrible at first but ok after 2000 miles break in?

Tyres .. IRC std are fine on tarmac, but the rear is poor in mud and wet grass. Front is surprisingly good off road (at low speeds).

Seat .. very very good (compared to 250X), widish and firm and comfy (for me). Very long distances possible (strong point).

Maintenance .. (strong point) .. excellent, 8000 mile intervals. Easy to change clutch and no special tools required (crf230 needs 2 or 3 tools), easy to oil the chain, also easy to adjust and lasts really well. Tyres last well too because of the light weight and low torque and judder clutch. Easy to clean (they tell me).

Extras needed .. bash plate, heated grips, hand guards, hinged gear foot lever,
also .. rear rack, panier frames, suspension adjustment? better off-road tyres, bigger screen? ....
....(hmmmm cush drive rear wheel on TL new rims, EBC clutch mod).. er 300 engine as per minky? ... stop stop now!

Overall .. great little bike, .. does nothing outstanding but everything quite well. Easy on tyres and chain. Can ride to trails, over long distances, cope ok, and get home without maintenance worries.

. Looking at the pile your advice is well founded Steve , I'll go with the Eo9 And 644 for Maroc just need to wear out the maxxis which shouldn't take to long , I can confirm the maxxis are crap in the wet on the road cheers for
The advice , John

I will probably go with that too once I know the TL tyre will be ok on the TT rim? (edit .. yup .. ok)

I won't touch maxxis after I tried the 6006 on my TTR600 .. (slippy dippy do)

ill qualify these as do it all tyres spadger

..marroc ive been several times and lot of lads use mefos ..k60s and they do ok and are more of a road tyre too

i believe the e09 is better in sand paddles the bike with less effort than the catspaw type treads ..you cam argue the 644 is overkill for a dry destination like marroc..personally i would stil use these as it can rain particulary in the north ..i do believe they are a better tyre on rocks and shale than a k60 ..better directional stability ..it would be fair to say you have many other options for marroc ..the 644 shines out in stuff like garys picture it just stays put ..the tyres wil chug through there feet up with no bother it needs to be fairly extream for the e09 to find its limits at trail speeds ona crf
there is a lot of roadork so you could keep your options open ...try a set on one bike for home and trails and then you can deciede before your big trip ..

the tkc front is usless at home on sloppy tracks ..lethal in stuff like garys picture ...but rides quite well on the road last for ages on the front and would be a decent choice for a dry marroc ..a little less radical than the 644 for te road work and not a bad dry destination tyre ..but dry is the key
..they absalutly beyond hopless in any stuff like gary picture they clog hoplessly but on dry shale and cartracky type stuff like maroc they are a good tyre that wear well ..but you would need to put it in the bin when you got home at the fist sight of wet grass

in summery the e09 and 644 are reliable in all off road situations and wear very well for a more aggressive type of tyre ..and the performance of the crf really doesnt challenge them on the road ..they dont traingulate on the front and dont suare off quick at the rear and retain a reasonable consistant cornering feel for long periods as the e09 keeps a much rounder profile for much longer than any enduro tyre you fit

here me maxxis IT off the ccm toasted in 1000 miles ..a really good winter trail tyre but as they wear the road handling is atrocoius

hope this helps ..

this winter ive used a metzler unicross i used these on the drz ..i find them much nicer on the road than ITS or c02s ..they do corner surprisingly nicley for such a aggressive block .brilliant in muddy stuff and wear much better than on the ccm than the IT the c02 seem to last longer but are hooroble on wet braking on tarmack so as a enduro tyre for the road i like them ...good tyre (thumbs)
i dont worry as much on the crf the e09 will do it all ..but the ccm is kicking out over 50bhp so now and again i use a enduro tyre sto stop ger spinning up so easy

feckin tyres ..they drive you nuts i just keep trying stuff and trial and error
