Update from Kurt's Facebook:
Update.....After a gruelling marathon stage 6 & 7 tomorrow's stage 8 has been cancelled due to weather. Kurt among many riders were not able to finish stage 7 and are still on the road safe in a hotel. They are still in the rally and he and others will need to complete a 1000 on liaison to get ready for stage 9. Our hearts go out to the 2 people who lost their lives in the mudslide causing the closure of the road in the stage today and the 1000 people who lost their homes. I am getting this information from social media and apologize if incorrect. Darin
Sounds like a tough stage in a tough race. Hope he makes it to Stage 9

Good thread this. I have found that I'm watching the highlights on Eurosport every night this time round but didn't really get into the original Africa rally, perhaps as I didn't have a bike then but I really love it and having ridden a couple of hundred miles in a day on and off road I can associate albeit a tiny fraction of what those boys go through, so for me the current format is very exciting to watch and dream of doing, sadly I think it will only stay a dream! Just how much does it cost the privateers to enter the Dakar anyone know? including worthy bike and shipping costs, entry fee etc.

Ive read your RR on the red kite enduro, and I must say It was brilliant, I lived it with you! it sounds very hard indeed. I once did a weekend training with Craig Bounds around wales with some mates and that was the hardest thing ive ever done. It was also wet cold and nasty and totally out of my comfort zone, and I also cracked/bruised a couple of ribs in a fall on the first day so soldiered on in agony for the next two days, so to do an enduro like that takes some guts really, big respect for giving it a go, and as you say the Dakar crowd have to be super fit, fearless and just a bit unhinged to go for it, I love it...Scott_rider wrote:I can imagine. I've done the Hafren rally a handful of times and that's easy, a bit like a flat-out trail ride more than anything else  . I know it's not a 'proper' rally in any shape or form but when you're pulling 80mph on a 450 KTM and someone still comes past you faster, it does make you think how good some riders are (thumbs) .Mike54 wrote:Doing an amateur rally in Pro class is more than tough enough, believe me
If anyone is interested, this is the report from when Redbikejohn and me did a hard Welsh Enduro...the Red Kite Enduro in 2009...mine is the second part of the report, (phil).
Red Kite Enduro 2009
Almost makes me want to get a rally replica and do some easy rally's
Thanks
