Re: Most important equipment to carry for UK to Alps
I know from experience that being sat at the side of a busy main road for 2 hours in 36c,missing a ferry and not even knowing if you'll get on the next days crossing until half an hour before sailing isn't much fun.I would rather carry a few extra grammes of "crap" and be on my way in 20 minutes.

Don't forget to take the curry
We buy things we don't need
With money we don't have
To impress people we don't even like

Each to their own ideas, I picked that tip up at one of the HU events I went toRandG wrote:What !Peirre wrote:Something many overlook are spare throttle and clutch cables,.
I've probably done a million miles on the last ten years and never snapped a throttle cable yet, absolutely OTT IMO.

Re: Most important equipment to carry for UK to Alps
I carry the same stuff for 3 days as i do for a month trip...so go away for a long weekend and if you dont use t dont take it...you can buy mos things you forgot or need anywhere in the world....
The ability to surf the net is invaluable ...even for help and local contacts ...the trip is part of the adventure like the shit that befalls dolks always a happy moment..

I can't belive this has gone to 5 pages
The last time a cable snapped was 21 years ago - we had breakdown insurance, which included car hire (yes they've got cars in France) and we found one of our favourite campsites in the world while we were 'stuck' for 2 days - in the sunshine, in the south of France :woohoo:
The last time I had a puncture was 26 years ago (thumbs)
Have a great time

Re: Most important equipment to carry for UK to Alps
As the question of advice for riding in Europe (for novice euro riders) comes up quite regularly across various forums, I'm surprised no one hasn't compiled a crib sheet of up to date advice, with sections inc legal, documentation, cross channel travel, breakdowns & tools, accommodation, tolls, etc. and then that advice stickied at the top of the forum or somewhere else on the website for easy access..
