ABS pump repair

Post by Timcat »

Can it be done? Ktm 690 endure R 14 plate, just back from AMS Tewksbury where they fitted a new set of clocks & had them take a look at the ABS as its never worked since I've had the bike and it turns out the pump is shot! £1195.00 new plus labour, question is can you have them fixed? Its a Bosch unit.

If you have no warranty on it I'd take it off. Get some normal brake lines made up and shed some weight in the process (thumbs)
It'll end in tears I tells ya.

Have a search on YouTube, many ABS pumps are Bosch and they suffer with brushes sticking in the brush holders. My GS has been the same for 6k miles or so and when it bothers me I tap the aluminium ABS valve block which jolts the brushes free for a while ..... do not tap the ABS motor casing itself (round black part) because it has magnets glued to the inside which can break up/off and then it will be scrap.

If you take it off I think you will have a problem with your insurance company. First of all the machine will become "modified" and in an area probably considered as critical safety equipment.

+1 here.
Definitely check with your insurer before removing or by passing the ABS. If you were to have an accident, even if it were not your fault, you could have very serious issues if the braking system has been modified.

I am glad for the endorsement Daytona. I am afraid brake systems need to be put back 100% standard working order, or modifications agreed (and assessed, probably).
