I'm still not convinced that you"re ready for "up norf".Yorkshire stone is a bit harder than thetford sand, spare a thought for your brittle hips

id be up for a mess about day (thumbs) cowlings a very good trials rider ..so the feet down dont count for me i can see a 36.1 ratio there .. you may need a calculator for my touchdowns and a calender for me lap times  ive done cowm quarry a few times and that was good fun and kirton looks good fun too but is a bit far from me to do in a day .. :(
have to get digs though its a long way to ride there and back in one day.but its somwhere ive looked at doing .im game for a laugh in a complete rather than compete sort of way ..dicking around on bikes is a great way to spend a day methinks and it always interesting to try new stuff ..maby one beer after ish ;)

Very kind words Steve, but me and trials, I wouldn't say good , and definitely wouldn't say very, but I do try.

This day challenge thing of bike and rider probably won't happen, had me thinking though, include a 50mile motorway run, that'll sort the crossers out, I suppose what we do on the ABC weekends is true testament that the little cfr250l is a very capable alrounder in stock form, and I'm all for improving bikes to better suit your individual needs, this is one thing you excel at, thus becoming a mine of information for the rest of us. Cheers (thumbs)

when i got the bike i put me luggage on and tried to set the sag ..with me and the luggage..i carry 10kgms of crap by default tubes tools compressor coat ect ect and near 25 plus ona longer trip
i had over 7 inches of sag on a ten inch stroke which didnt surprise me so i figured id crank up the preload on the shock to try at least to make it better maby use a different spring ive got severel from other bikes hanging about that would be stronger than the hondas but as a rough guess i had to crank it up or raise it 100ml
as a rule of thumb one turn on a preload gives around 3ml lift so i wasnt optimistick about thirty turns but thought id cramk it up as much as i could and see what it looked like
i was aware the shock was unadjustable but honda have redifined the meaning with the crf what happened next was amazing ive never seen a shock like it there were precisly two rings of preload left to turn ..honda put just enough threads on to attach the ring there is nothing you can do ..6ml lift instead of 100 just wasnt going to work for me
even with the new shock and much stronger spring it had to be cranked a fair way to set the sag ..the differnce in ride quality is as you would expect ..you will always get half your money back maby a bit less when you have finished ..so when the dust settles it will probably have cost me 350 quid to do the front and back ..if i got nowt back id still do it again it does ride well (thumbs)
just looking at the pictures gives a fair idea how underdamped the bike is i think

Over the last 40 years it's no exaggeration to say that I must have made at least 20 sets of stepped spacers to add preload to rear shocks where the adjustment simply wasn't there and I've certainly got into double figures on the number of pairs of inserts I've made to do a similar job on fork springs.

It used to be more common to make spacers for older twin shock bikes from the '70s and '80s but even now some manufacturers make shocks with such a small amount of adjustment that it's better to back the adjustment right off, bung a 6mm spacer in then start again (thumbs)
