It might have had more of a chance if the originator had asked for replacements for permanent closures by maybe re-opening previously closed byways to give the ones being closed a chance to recover and if they'd accepted that temporary closures, seasonal closures and certain winter restrictions were ok but that's not how it reads.

I do think that the subject is a good one and needs discussion but to me it's like the petitions we see every so often asking for road tax to be scrapped on motorbikes and they always fail because of the wording.
Yes, I agree but if the badly-worded version raises the general profile of the cause, then that can't be a bad thing.

As I said, it needs an MP or MPs to be behind this before anything will happen.

I am of the same opinion

It is badly worded and contradicts itself, so I won't sign it

A total waste of time.

Not to mention that even if a petition gets the signatures all it triggers is an eligibility for a debate, but it doesnt guarantee one. Normally all that happens is a comment.

I do think that discussion at higher levels would help and it'd be helpful if the TRF would sort out their internal issues and get back to doing what they're good at alongside GLASS then we might get something in place but as I've already said, this idea is doomed.

I still pester my local councils about their seasonal restrictions if they run over their planned duration so at least the people making these decisions know someone is watching them.

Exactly Mike

Some thoughts of mine, about 'this' petition

It is flawed, badly worded and the aspirational nature of the petition is unworkable

So a UCR or BOAT gets closed - how are the Highways or National Park going to whip another new one out of thin air, when there are planning and other statutory ROW and highway issues to undertake

I can see it causing more harm than good

I have interests in farming and it would throw any remaining goodwill from that sector out of the window

I will not be signing this petition
