Bennetts Insurance!!! YIKES!

Post by Philiptigerrice »

Well - I've insured my 2008 R1200 GSA with Benetts for 2 years - last year was the first time I ever allowed a policy to auto renew. It was £275 fully comp, including breakdown, legal, accident etc.

This year - I looked online... £589.

Thats right - five hundred and eighty nine pounds sterling! I've no accidents - nothings changed - I turned 40... but thats it.

Should I blame Brexit? lol ;)

Joking aside - I rang them and they dropped it to £410. :woohoo:

Generous eh?!

Next up - the comparison sites - now got a matching policy for £273 with Motorcycle Direct.

Mental the insurance industry isn't it....

Mine was renewed in July. It hasn't gone up in 6 years, all on K100. Cover has upgraded from basic third party to now include fire and theft. Due to age of bikes I don't bother with comprehensive. Carole Nash.

you might be surprised with the cost of 3rd party now can cost more than fully comp, esp on new bikes and cars or they wont give you the 3rd party option

My renewal with Bennetts came in at £330!!!! 46 years riding no claims since was 25 fully comp on a 2014 GS. Rang to cancel they replied can we see if we can any better? £147 with a slightly increased excess, comparable with all the comparison sites.
I wish I could figure out how these fekkers tick.

Yea my multi bike policy was a lot higher with CN this year so in the end it was cheaper to take out four seperate policys with Motorcycle Direct.

I've been having this problem too, ended up with Bennetts this year as CN were a daft price, I could have had 2 seperate policies, one with no NCD, and been cheaper, Bennetts came in with a better price so I when with that BUT I just sold my 950 to a lad from down south near London and he told me his insurance was £120 on the same bike.
I'd been paying around that with CN and I live in Cumbria and I'm 49!

I just can't understand them at all, maybe his insurance company is a super cheap hard to deal with one? (like most of them are)

Seems a common theme, with Bennetts for 10yrs and this year my multi bike policy went through the roof, so ended up going to single bike policies, got a few additional quotes and Bennets fell in line.
I know they are in the money making game like everyone else, but surely they could make a little more effort towards the customer as opposed to trying "fleece" them first time round?

I seem to have to chop and change each year with the insurance for my bikes,Bennetts one year then with someone else the next then back to Bennetts etc etc etc, they all seem to give a sort of introductory discount the first year to a new customer then think you'll just "auto renew" next year.

Going new each year with the comparison sites has been best for me. Past 2 years I havent even bothered to contact/answer on renewals. Just ask for my NCD proof and thats it. I can only imagine that its a risk business where they can offload and onboard year on year faster than ever before so a good renewal becomes a rare thing. Always seems to be another company keen to onboard with good offers when you run the quote comparisons.

Cynical me would say, the more they collect data and profile us better the more they are taking the piss on people they think will just renew
