Because I want to see the bike first the same as every other new bike I have bought over the years. There is also the issue of what happens if I am involved in an accident on the way up and the bike I am trading in is damaged.
As for paying balance in full with a credit card, wouldn't I get hit with a 2.5% transaction fee.

Tell them to stick it. Anything could happen and there's no reason why they should get the money up front and the taxing it part sounds like bollocks because you tax it online.

I am with you Andy and have asked for deposit back...they also have my new insurance policy for said bike so no reason why it can't be taxed.

Only my two-penneth worth but I would NOT pay the balance until the day of collection, it's too risky. They may go bust before then, they may burn down, the bike may get damaged before then. All of that is unlikely but it does happen. It's much easier to sort it out sh1t like that if you haven't parted with any money.

Reason for the request is to ensure their monthly and quarterly bonus.
These can be big figures to the dealership so my advice would be tell then what extra discount you want and that you will pay it by creditcard with no additional fee.
The bike will be registered in September not October so be prepared for that.
If they quibble about the creditcard then say that is the only way you can do the deal as it gives you the protection however if on the day of collect they are able to give you a credit on the credit card and then take the payment on a debit card that would be fine provided your month end date for the credit card is not very close or you would be liable for paying the creditcard bill this month and getting the credit next month.

I wouldn't want my bike taxing now because I'd be out of pocket on a months tax

I wouldn't be wasting my time messing about.Pay on collection...the salesman's bonus isn't your problem.

Salesman's bonus may not be but £250 to £500 of the price might be.
Anything less I would agree.

+1 if I wanted the bike I'd just give them the cash, that way they know it's sold and you ain't going to pull out of the deal.
If you've got a good discount it's probably because they wanted the deal before the end of the month....what's your problem with that....everyone's a winner.
