hiya Paul .. kryptonite seemed to do a good steel cable .. the mini disc lock seems good too.

this is the longest I came across.

its got braided steel which is stronger, and is vinyl coated

but Oxford do a good one too.
lock

cable something like this, tho also sold with an oxford mini lock

but there are also mini chains sort of
https://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/ac ... LK140.html
and plenty of good disc locks
http://www.easylocks.co.uk/oxford-locks/

I did see somewhere there are manufacturers that sell lengths of steel cable.

this looks good
here is a 12mm cable, but I would not have thought its a good a s a steel chain?

sterling cable and abus lock looks good
.. you can go on and on, following links (ha)
I not seen any tests on cable strength/resistance tho??

Another vote for Abloy.

Having worked in bank security, I wouldn't trust any other brand :)

well it arrived today ..
quite pleased with the choice actually, even if I did `click` the buy it now button almost by mistake

Oxford 1.5 x 9.5mm chain and HD disc lock.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OXFORD-HD-HEA ... 2255726332

light enough to carry easily on the bike.
the chain has .. long narrow links, so can use two locks on (one around the post, one to the bike, for longer length if needed)
.. is substantial looking and got the `oxford` name on the sleeve as a `deterrent`.
and .. long enough to be versatile in fixing, close or near.

cheap as chips at £29 inc delivery. but quality (I hope).

substantial disc lock.
I already got a HD oxford disc lock (with steel cable) and that is 12mm but this one is 14mm nominal plus the sleeve. ART is 3 star (of 5) and sold secure `silver` for motorbikes.

well chuffed actually

(thumbs) trouble is the NC is now getting like that favourite old hoody that I'll never get rid of, no one else would wear as they prefer to splash out the huge jacket with aluminium pockets or the loud orange high tech number:whistle: but to me it's a keeper. I might have to start locking the bloody thing up after all, at least the chain & padlock will store away easily in the frunk B)

Hi Gary, Im afta a cheapish lock for one of my bikes ( no real value or sentimental as they are my first old bikes). maybe I should just leave them to the thieving scrotes that are about, but alas the insurance broker dictates that I have one
I clicked on your link but they are coming up at £49. Where did you get it for £29.
Cheers buddy.
Shaun.

When I bought a new bike the previous owner left a Oxford disc lock attached to the rack which I didn't get a key for. With a hacksaw it took all of 5 mins to cut through the U shape ! The pin is hardened but the body is some cheap soft alloy like cheese!!!!

Don't buy one its a complete waste of money... At least some others are the same hardened stainless steel body

thanks for that Mike .. I not seen any reports or reviews on the u lock till yours.

I suppose 5 minutes is all we can ask of a light portable lock, anyway.
