I would suggest space,modern bike engines seem to be getting smaller,
Added to that 99% bikes don't do big miles so why add cost /complexity (thumbs)

Cars,trucks etc do not share the engine oil with gearbox lubrication,the shearing action of the gears On the oil degrades it a lot quicker,also cars/ trucks have a larger oil capacityTramp wrote:so Honda did it why they change then....most dual sports or adventure whatever arent high reving...
frequent service intervals are a ball ache too...most modern cars,lorries run similar oils and have double the mileage between services....oils changed to allow this but bikes did not..
ktm need high spec oils at high cost ....surely they dont need it and all the maintenance required is crazy...you dont see sports cars in the garage every 6 mnths for a overhaul.. :woohoo:

All air cooled Harleys have had hydraulic valve lifters for decades but they're a pushrod relatively low revving engine, 6000 for the big twins and 7000 for the sportsters. It means they're a piece of cake to maintain and service.
It must be to do with the high engine speeds and the layout of the DOHC engines.

Yep ....fogot about shearing in gearbox lol...i change gearbox oil every 3 years with good quality teflon stuff...
Diesels rev to about 3.5k to 4k...most power dependingbon turbo is at 2.5k...love them.
My old transalp did 60k without any ajustment and didnt need any either...dr is same.
