Are ABR Rallies a thing of the past ?

What do people tend to want out of them, just out of interest?

More than a meeting point and a campsite, ?

Yeah kind of what I was getting at really. To,ride 200 miles on the motorway then 20 yards on grass and drink for the weekend isn't for me, but if it was all about offroad riding then sure. But...the haggs bank thing, no one did the long day that had been designed . Too long maybe? how about a navigation based event (with gps, not roadbook)

Then come and do the Taffy Dakar (thumbs)

Brilliant Rally.
Couldn't manage it this year but did it last year.
Unbelieveable event.
Superb Venue.
Great hospitality & Organisation.
2 full days of challenging riding.
Hope to do it next year if my mates up to it.

Its a people thing....no sod can be assed to post a event be it a weekend away hell even a days ride or evening ride either...

Its all down to individuals ....ive done a fair few in past all fun events but sorry no more...ive changed and prefer the smaller meets .

Also.the forum.has changed gone are lits of folks who uswd to post ,sad as i miss them partly due to bitching but thats life...i now enjoy the good stuff alone mostly...with friends ive made on here...

And why should rain stop folks attending....ow they may get wet and bike dirty...

Answer= buy a car instead.

NA, I dont think ABR rallies are a thing of the past,but then I may be a tad biased :whistle: . You'll never please all the people going to a rally, and there's always something that could have been done differently (thumbs) But unless people speak up and make some suggestions for the following year, I think most organizers do a pretty good job (thumbs) and do it because they want to do it,and like meeting new and old friends, even if it is only once a year at rallies. With all the ABR rallies around the country it does give people a chance to see different parts of our homeland and talk bollocks for for a few hours and forget about the every day worries for a while even if it is only once a year around the camp fire in a damp beautiful field overlooking the Welsh coastal. But as I've said before I am a tad biased :whistle: . Seriously thou whatever you do enjoy it. (thumbs)

Seeing shiny new W/c 1200's being taken along Sarn Helen, down the rocky steps and through the river crossing is a sight to see, so well done and respect for doing to these bikes what they were designed for! TD gets bigger year by year, this year's event was broadened to include the Brechfa Forest and Abergorlech; next year Strata Florida? who knows ?

like i said tell us what you want from a rally,theres no point in going to events then bitchin afterwards saying why didt they do that or this might have been good if ?,i agree its diffecult to please everyone .

Maybe it's an age thing where most of the people who are attending rallies are near to 60 years of age and ride a 1200 GS or similar and are quite happy just to turn up and go for a cake and slippers run, whereas the younger more adventurous rider is a little bored with that kind of thing ... Just looking at Red Eric's pictures and the group of riders he is with, it kind of looks that way... Or maybe the 30/40 age group just don't have that kind of spare cash most weekends in the summer

I have not been on a lot of rally's but the ones I have been on have been great and iv met lots of great new friends
The boil rally had to be canceled this year but for a very good reson and iv been up to Paul and I think it will be back on next year it it well run & there as always been food lad on and at least 4/5 ride outs

I'm off next weekend to the wast wales rally in Haverfordwest and at the min it's looking like 40 going yes some have dropped out but there are 40 have now booked for the food . Bernard smith is coming along to give us a talk and bring his book . The blood bikes are hopping to be able to call in and there are ride out sorted out not sure about an off road one but there are road ride sorted . But if the one that turn up and never say can we change something of say you should do this and that . But are not willing to help then most of the rally's will just die out

I've got the cash, I just don't have the time. Every weekend is booked up with family, friends, gardening or holidays.

I want to meet people with different views that I've not read on the internet and who speak different languages, have a different culture and generally motivate me to mingle and learn things. That's why I travel to rallies in different countries rather than stay local.

Thanks Andy that's interesting coming from someone who has over 5000 posts and interacting with site members most days but have no interest in meeting them or hearing what they have to say at at rally

I have very limited free time due to my job so when I take the opportunity to go to a rally I want to meet new groups of people from different countries and see different things along the way. I'm pretty sure I've always asked here if anyone else wants to come when I go away in the winter and I will do when everything is finalised for the trip next year but not everyone wants the same thing out of a 10 day trip away from home.

That shouldn't be taken as knocking ABR rallies and at some point I will go to one when either my wife is away for the weekend and I'm at a loose end or it's somewhere I couldn't normally go.
