Found a great video then post it up here. It doesn't have to be about bikes.

Watched this many times since posted. 110% lorry drivers fault! Why would it not be? Also rider took it a lot better than I would under the circumstances. Just saying. Nige.

Having viewed the video (without sound) you can see that at 5 sec the motorcyclist is looking so far right that he could be making a lifesaver check (or checking out that girls butt?) and so not looking towards the immediate hazard. It seems that it is at this point the lorry begins to make the left hand turn so by the time the rider looks forward the lorry is already approaching the wrong side of the road at 6 sec. The distance between the bike and the lorry is perhaps 2 small car lengths. Its hard to tell at 7 sec, due to glare, if the rider is now in a blind spot, but certainly from 8 sec on, the bike is clearly within a blind spot until impact and that lorry is motoring round there. I'd say very little time to consider swerving right as you know the lorry will keep swinging left and will close up that safe gap on the right very quickly as it swings round. I think at this point, there is absolutely nothing you can do.

The lorry driver is 100% at fault (he's on the wrong side of the road at a head on collision and this is non-debatable! and also would appear to be carrying a bit too much speed) and there was very little the rider could do once he knew what was happening. If he hadn't craned his neck a few seconds earlier then he might have had time to take evasive action.

Slightly off topic, I think, as a rule, in any situation, that if you foresee an accident likely to occur as a fault of someone else, you do not have the right to continue towards that accident knowing that if it does occur then you can just blame someone else since you knew it wouldn't be your fault anyway. You should still make every effort to avoid that accident.

there is a gap to the side of the lorry he could of moved towards that, worse case he bangs his bike up the pavement. You are right I didn't notice the look at the women on his right hand side and perhaps he was not looking at her he may of seen the lorry sooner.

Yes the lorry does go on the wrong side of the road and in law he might have a little difficulty explaining that one but in reality lorries steal the road, the road he turns into appears to be quite tight, his attention may of been on missing the old dear and a push chair

We will never really know because the camera does distort things somewhat.

cheers Spud ;)

Do agree that the lorry would obviously cross the centre of the road, but that makes him responsible for any incidents which occur as a result of that. In my opinion, of course.

As we know, all accidents can be avoided one way or another, regardless of who is at fault ;)

Can't really tell the poor bloke on the Ducati that now, though, can we.

Large vehicles. These may need extra road space to turn or to deal with a hazard that you are not able to see. If you are following a large vehicle, such as a bus or articulated lorry, be aware that the driver may not be able to see you in the mirrors. Be prepared to stop and wait if it needs room or time to turn.

If it was me on the bike I would have been heading to the riders right and up the kerb.
However it doesn't change the fact that the lorry driver just didn't see the bike in his blind spot and he is 100% at fault. Just a normal day for a truck driver where a moments inattention can have massive consequences.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.
