The Outer Hebrides are simply beautiful but be careful. The pictures do not show the wind and photos are rarely taken in the rain.

And there is a lot of wind, cold and rain up there.

Anyway...

We camped here to escape the wind...

At the very top, the wind was serious..

And despite the weather being stunning, it was freezing...

Certainly the unpredictability of the weather is the major factor but during a spell of fine weather I reckon Scotland could be in the top five countries in the word to visit

Amen brother. If they still want to be friends with us after September, I may retire up there. (I am half Scot)

Oddly enough, the locals on the outer Hebrides do not regard themselves as Scottish. On speaking to them they actively disassociate themselves with mainland Scotland and call themselves "Islanders".

You're making me jealous, it's a great part of the world!

You've to go a wee bit further south - Benbecula has a proper airport. It is Barra where they land on the beach.

Another Harris beach shot.

The causeway linking south Uist with Erikay.

Spent 4 nights camping on the Uist macca. I just couldn't drag myself away from the pristine solitude of the place & the nature is just everywhere.

If you are willing to explore a bit, the Uists & Benbecula offer so much more than Harris & Lewis ... I know many don't agree!

The Tarbert - Uig ferry.
