Arctic Coast Highway run July 2015 for target ovarian cancer charity

Post by sexysi »

Hi guys and girls following on from this year's 10 countries run I am officially putting together an Arctic Coast Highway run, in aid of the Ovarian Cancer Trust.

Image

My partner Kate had a nan that died of this very cancer a while back, who she was very close to.

In the next couple of months Kate is having the operation to remove her ovaries as she has a higher risk than normal of getting the same cancer.

So to that end I thought it would be a good charity to support as it directly effects me.

The ride will consist of a 14 day trip from Eynsford in Kent (My home village)
Across the channel into France then ride Eastwards across Holland and Germany and then turning Northwards into Denmark. Then I will ride into Sweden and head up to Norway to Mo I Rana, where the Arctic Coast Highway starts.

Then I will travel up the complete road right up to the most Northly point I can get(Nordkapp).

Then I will come back Via either Sweden or Finland, haven't decided yet.

This will be a journey of some 5,000 miles in 14 days, with a mixture of wild camping and campsites, sorry no hotels etc, as this is an Adventure.

I will plan to do this is July as this will be one of the warmest months in Norway that I can do it in.

I am open to company as this for me will be a one in a lifetime adventure and I don't mind sharing it with others.

Having said that I will still do it on my own.

Daily mileages are around the 300-350 mile mark, so at a steady 50mph that is 6 hours riding, more than enough time to stop and take pictures, stop and eat for anyone.

Don't forget the further North you go the more daylight you get (Winter sun)

I do have a dedicated webpage for this that I will add to as the planning gets going, already planned a route and various camp site options.

But this is all about adventure!!!!! So carrying all my gear with me, and will only pick up bits and bobs of food as I go.

cheers Si

Mods can you sticky this for me.... ta

Best wishes on your adventure Si - a very good cause, I've lost some good friends this way so I only wish I could join you and do my bit.

Yep still need a wing man, and will love to get some pointers on camping all the way up. What is a cheaper way if you dont go via the bridge.

IV been keen to do this route for sometime and Im due a decent adventure if there is room for one more.
I'm a medic with the ambulance service, ex serviceman so well used to roughing it. I'm in the Portsmouth area.
I cycled John O groats to Lands End solo a couple of years ago for cancer research for similar reasons to yourself.
Let me know if it's a possibility, I appreciate you may want to keep it a small affair.
Cheers Kev

Kevin you are welcome to come along, next year.

1 other has shown an interest, and your good self, might get some more takers nearer the time.

I have a web page on my website dedicated to the trip, with various bits of info. Quite happy to meet up if your interested in the trip. There is a Somerset ABR meeting in August I think that I will be at.

Links to the pages I'm on about on my signature at the bottom of this post.
