Which Super Tenere?

Post by DirtYarpie »

I'm in a bit of a quandary. I'm in the market for a new bike...had a BMW GSA but after the final drive packed up at 34 000kms I've lost confidence in the big GS's.
I took a look at the local Yamaha dealer and they have 2 x 1200's (this is South Africa...and Port Elizabeth!) One is the 2013 Super Tenere at 7 777 pounds versus the brand new 2014 full house (ESA, a bit more power and torque, adjustable screen, a few extra covers, heated grips etc). The cost of the 2014 model is 9 444 pounds. The 2013 model is white vs 2014 blue...and for me the white looks so much more exciting!
I just wonder if the additions are worth an extra 1 667 pounds?
I'd appreciate any (positive) comments ;)

Those extras are not worth that much the esa is a gimmick in my opinion save the rest for fuel and adventure and go with the white one

have fun in what ever you go for !

ESA is nice if you're too lazy or too thick to manually adjust your suspension according to what you're doing and let's face it; not many of us bother

I would agree with that. new one has stuff you don't need and more to go wrong.

I looked at the 2014 S10 and its the only bike I would part ex my present bike for. Yamaha don't make things that go wrong.

That must be a recent development because that wasn't the case when they made my 2009 Tenere.

Only minor stuff but pannier keys made of cheese, cush drive rubbers made from recycled Durex and a reg/rec that didn't were all issues inside the first 12 months of owning it from new.

no problems with the cush drive on my s10. yes the keys/locks are shite. In my opion the new bike is an improvement. Normally yamaha leave models alone for at least 5 yrs so maybe the feedback from owners has promted an early revision. Tell me which bike you prefer?
