I got a Kahedo with my bike but prefer the OE one and flogged it on eBay.

Ive owned both and ridden 2 up on both. The 1200 is much better 2 up, more comfy, more power, you can hardly feel there is someone on the back. Thats not to say the 800 couldnt do it, it could...just not as well. It depends on what you want to do with it. If you go off road at all then id take a good look at the 800 and see if you are prepared to sacrifice some touring comfort for increased dirt ability and weight loss. If you dont go off road and the 2 up riding occupies a substantial part of your riding time, then definately the 1200.

They are totally different bikes, best to test ride both to see which you prefer.

I have a 1200GSA and I found the standard seat was very uncomfortable after about 4hrs riding.

I bought a Sargent and I think its what BMW should have fitted as standard imho (thumbs)

I've had an 800 for 4 years, done about 25,000 on it. Its a great bike and capable of two up but with a pillion you really notice it; mainly in the handling. This is of course dependant on the weight of your pillion.

I took a test ride on a twin cam 1200 with and without pillion and didn't notice anywhere near as much of a difference. The ESA did a great job.

Passenger comfort was reportedly a lot better on the 1200.

Im currently planning on upgrading for more power and better on road touring performance. The 800 was my second bike after a 660 tenny.

I agree I've also owned Both through the Balkans two up on a 1200gsa with camping gear etc it was great, I also went to Russia I had a problem with a fuel control sensor but still a great bike, I now have an 800 gs an find it great if a little cramped two up , off rd to be honest i didn't find a it lot diffrent I think the dry weight of the GSA is 239 kilos an the 800 is 207 but. Still both r quite a handfull when it gets muddy or sandy but I do like the fuel efficiency of the 800 I hope that helps.
