I'm just interested to get an idea of how many members on this forum do and how many don't.
It is individual choice and there is nothing wrong with stopping for winter if that's what you choose to do.
Although I'm not reliant on my bikes to get to work or anything, I continue riding.
Months without riding literally drives me daft. I was without a bike for 8 weeks this summer and I had to go do a test ride.
My Daytona does go off the road for winter (tax ran out end of October and it went on SORN), but the XT stays on the road. I'm also training for S.E.R.V so that will mean riding at any time of day or night too.
Do you ride through winter?
Do you ride through winter?

Re: Do you ride through winter?
Only odd days here and there. TBH I'm a bit of a fair weather rider and don't like setting off when it's chucking it down.
However, if I've committed to a ride, the weather would have to be pretty bad for me to call it off.

Re: Do you ride through winter?
On the road, not really
Too cold/too wet/too dark etc
Bikes are SORNed
I revert to riding my Trials bike, competing in local trials events and great fun, you can get 3-4 hours in on a Sunday for £15 entry and fuel, in some stunning countryside, far, far away from where any bike is normally permitted to ride
Plus you get to there & back in a nice warm Van, with the heater on.............what's not to like

Every day...five days a week.
Unless it's wet and below 3c and then I will take the car. But that means I have to leave home at 5 am to get a parking spot a mile from work.
I got great waterproof gear and the best heated clothing.

Re: Do you ride through winter?
Yes, but not my good bike.
My Crosstourer is laid up over the winter, the salt and grit is a killer up here.
I run an old Africa Twin for the winter. I run a van for work so the bike's only for pleasure so can afford to pick my weather. I get some excellent days out at the weekends, I usually head for the Lecht or Cairngorm, looking for snow!
I had a quick bash on the local enduro track today with the Africa twin, good grief, the ground's soft just now, and the heavy @T is a nightmare on soft stuff! It has its limits!
I'd go stir crazy if I didn't have my winter hack, I would sit looking out the window all winter otherwise.
I'm sure plenty of ACF50 and WD40 would protect a decent bike but I can afford to buy an old hack and don't have to worry about dropping it on slidy roads.
Enjoy your winter riding, what if you couldn't ride for health reasons come springtime? Ride for the moment, not the future!

Re: Do you ride through winter?
I skip the Office Christmas Party season ( about now until Second week of January) mostly.... too many fools on the road who've had a skinfull and still think they're OK to drive - including the "next morning" drunks.
Other than that, yes, all year round - keeps me sane. :woohoo:

I ride all year round.
I use the bike to commute to work. It's only about six miles and in main roads so not too much risk.
Leisure wise, as long as its dry, I'll go out.
