Go via Fortwilliam, it will be wet, but its always wet in Fortwilliam, Avoid the A9 its a most boring dangerous road. , enjoy the ride across Rannoch moor and through Glencoe, up along banks of LochNess turn left at Drumnadrochit then Right over the hill to Kiltrarlity and Beauly, Muir of Ord

But is it much slower than the A9? I'm already doing 12 hours on my Tenere and i think thats quite enough.

Pondering a similar route depending on leaving date/time.
Not stopping at the GAC again are you ParaB? I looked at the Dunoon crossing earlier in the year, but then came across Erskine Bridge then via Helensburgh to avoid the A82 past Loch Lomond!! Much nicer route I thought...

Hi Al,
how are the roadworks on the bridge?
Is that 30 mins in a car or on a bike?
Are they single lane or narrow lanes so no filtering with tins on the back.
What time does the traffic build as i'm planning to go over the bridge around noon on Friday?

So I see, alternative routes are being looked at by several of us I reckon Ferry from west of Glasgow, or up towards Stirling seem the alternatives. I may stop overnight around Ayr and sneak into the Highlands via Gourock.
