I'm not an Adventure rider are you?

Ok so I've got an Adventure bike or a big trailie as they used to be known, and an Arai TourX, and I take my GS off road, and through the odd stream and ford, and across Europe not always knowing where I'm going but I don't consider myself an adventure motorcyclist. I consider people like Helge Pedersen, AV and the likes of some of the folk in this months ABR as adventure motorcyclists, not me a father of two young ones who manages to get over to Europe once a year and across a field or two at a weekend. But I do dream of those month or two long trips where you have no idea where your next ingredient for your Trangia is coming from, but to be realistic it's not going to happen. I have nearly all the gear, tent, bag etc but no time, money or inkling at the moment to leave my family behind for that longer time.
So for now I'll be thankful for riding everyday on the commute, a weekend on the local trails and a blast to europe when I can, but an Adventure bike rider I'm not..

It doesn't matter what you ride or how/where you ride it! Just enjoy what you do, and make the most of it!

Agree, I happen to ride a bike that is termed an "adventure bike" but that`s because it does what I want, not because of it`s label.

Have rode motor bikes in Central and Southern Africa, where l once lived. Some of Europe most of the uk .And in no way would l consider myself an adventure bike rider. I do not want to ,and have not the slightest interest in riding off road .And will never own an adventure bike, apart from it being a waste of money ,l have no interest in them.So its roads and my road bike for me, and will be leaving the adventure stuff for those that do it or maybe just dream of doing it.

I understand what you are saying Samfan but buying my first GS opened up a whole new set of challenges and routes which I could never done on my Ducatis, so to say they are a waste of money is a bit strong imho.

Adventure Bike Rider is just a fashion statement for people who ride the latest big thing to happen to motorcycling

Next few years it'll be retros and bobbers, so you'll have all moved on to pastures new :whistle:

I used to have a CB200 with Honda's cable-operated device that looked like a disc brake but wasn't really a brake at all and blown shocks.

That was a real adventure bike...every ride was an adventure!
