I was watching Sky News this morning and was moved by the report of a group of true Heroes.
The guys, 50 for them, mostly over 50 years old, who are in amongst the silent and invisible killer radiation in the Fukoshima nuclear power plants in Japan. They are all volunteers doing their best to restore power to the generators.
In Japan they are being dubbed "The Fukushima 50", "The nuclear veterans" and "The nuclear samurai". Many years ago I worked in a "dirty" nuclear environment in Aldermaston and it was very scary but carefully controlled. They have very little control and they will all have the knowledge that all the helicopter pilots that helped to put out the Chernoble fire are all dead and they did not even go near the reactors.
The word Hero is seriously abused nowadays. The world we now live in we call people who are good at football "heroes".
These are the real Heroes. People who put their lives in jeopardy for the greater good and the sake of others.
I take my hat off to them and bow in respect.

some moving messages from their families in the metro this morning. also said that there are actually 300 of them working in 50 man shifts... it is the metro tho, so maybe not 100% accurate.
bloody heroes though, every last one.
