XT660X - Help with Identification Please (asap!)

Post by Mosel Bikes »

I'm looking at buying one or two bikes and am interested in this one on Ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121137361711? ... 1423.l2649
mainly because it has the bits on I'd find useful.
I googled images of the 2005 XT660X and it seems that the graphics/decals on this bike are maybe not the original? which might or might not be a problem, as I seem to recall reading somewhere that the decals are prone to come off after jet washing and the like.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Presumably, if that's the case, I should be able to get some replacements easily?
Thought maybe someone has/had one and can help (I'm on 660.com but can't post - I suspect because I had the audacity to question a moderator!

possibly it is an import, different countries often have different decals and colours

Well it looks like the 2012 circular logo on top, and a XTX logo from another year, or possibly ebay below. It has a non standard seat, which looks good if you are a shortie. Basically, it has been customised, and probably a UK bike.

I'm no expert- but that seems a good price from a dealer

Thanks for comments guys. I agree it has been customised. I noticed the seat and thought that it was maybe a lower one. I'd prefer a higher one, but I'd imagine it would be easy enough to swop or sell this one for a standard item (probably has more value). I was also attracted by the Givi plate and quick-release pannier rails, the Scottoiler, touring screen, crash bars and heated grips. Given that I've been offered it for £2250, it does indeed seem a good buy, even with relatively high mileage.
I'm still intrigued by the shroud logos though. A search of '2005 XT660X' on You Tube reveals a lot of bikes that are clearly shot in other countries that look exactly like this one. I'm leaning toward the import theory and should be able to confirm today by asking what the V5C shows - if it is an import, it should have 'previously registered overseas' on it. A help to me, as I want it for use in Germany and it would most likely still have the EU spec headlight.

I have owned 3 XT660 X Yamahas and yes the graphics fall off as they were just stuck on and not laquered on ,All mine had the round yamaha logo on the plastic shrouds

Jetwash them all off now, because as the bike wears and picks up scratches THEN loses a sticker, the nice new patch where it was stands out a mile.
Also they look better plain, imo ;)

Deposit paid and collect in a week or two. It's a UK bike, so I guess the decals have come off. Like you Davsato, I prefer it plain, looks less 'shell suit and power ranger' somehow.
Many thanks.
