Also earlier i recomended going up the A68.. thats fine up until you get to England/Scotland border called Carter Bar, A big rock with Scotland/ England on it. Once your in Scotland there are speed cameras, lots of speed cameras!! on this A68 road.. A much better route up to Edinbrough is via Bonchester bridge(A6088) to Hawick then the excelent A7 to Selkirk, Galashiels, and onwards to Edinbrough.. This road runs more or less parallel to the A68, but its a much better ride. B)

Where to start... in wales you could do your whole holiday there and no motorways lol. So your heading from the south and south west .so one little bit of m4 and over the severn bridge(wont hurt toll road)come off at chepstow and your straight into the forest of dean monasteries mines and mental sheep no best road just make that up as you go alonglol .. then hear for abergavenny andthen brecon (plenty of camping around here)and the beacons . then as you head west towards elan valley and devils bridge.head in a llanidloes direction in town follow signs for staylittle to macynthleth..... to be cont inued later as off to work...
Okay back again... for fotos of elan valley check the abr shropshire rally in feb for fotos...
Ok from macynthleth follow signs for aberdovey follow coast road till you get to penmaenpool over the rickety toll road and head for barmouth again coast road is stunning then depends where you want to go following coast or head inland will go for inland for now head towards maentwrog and then signs for trawsfynedd when you see the ffestiniog signs take that route then as you come to village turn right before the railway bridge and follow till you hit the a5 again turn right follow till you see the sign for denbigh follow thistill you see signs for the lake cant remember name of it but then its an amazing road this will bring you back to a5 follow till you see signs for llandegla and follow till you see signs for horshoe pass follow this then your heading back to england and chester....
If you want more for northwales or anyone ill happily give routes and single road routes
Cheers j

Perfect stop over between the lakes and York.
Re: Local knowledge needed - two Danes travelling through the UK this summer
Whilst heading north from Edinburgh I would stay away from the A9 and cut up through the Cairngorms Pitlochry to Bridge of Cally, then Spittal of Glen Shee up to Braemar,Gairnsheil Lodge,Corgarf,Cock Bridge,Tomintoul, Brig' O Broon,Grantown on Spey,Nairn,Inverness.Thats about 5/6 hours at a steady peace.

Bring plenty of mosquito repellent and head nets if you are camping in Scotland and keep the tent door shut at all times. The Scottish Midge are nasty little buggers.

IMHO, I still don't think you have enough time in 5 days to visit northern scotland. Roads in the UK are SLOW & you'll be arriving just as the school holidays start. Also, the local councils like to spend the summer digging up roads :whistle:El Dudeness wrote:We will be coming in to Newcastle with the ferry from the weed capitol of Europe, Amsterdam on tuesday the 23/07 and leaving with the boat from Harwich on sunday the 28/07.
Here's a biker friendly suggestion which will give you plenty of time to stop to admire the views and enjoy our cafe culture
23/07
From the ferry, travel north into Northumberland, then ride westwards along Hadrians Wall
Ride down to Kirkby Stephen & stay with Paul at Takoda Camping. You can visit a lot of places from there:
- Spend a day exploring the Lake District
- Spend a day exploring Yorkshire
- Spend a day exploring the Scottish Borders
27/07
Ride south then east through the Peak District then across to Lincolnshire / Norfolk
or
ride the M6 south from Kirkby to by-pass the Midlands then explore the Cotswolds & Cambridgeshire
28/07
ride to Harwich for ferry home
enjoy your visit

I live near the ferry at Harwich, (5 min you can see the ferry's & boats coming in from my house), I can't offer you a bed, but you can camp in my back garden, if your plans haven't changed & get to use the facility's, & show you a good pub with nice food too.
PM me if still coming on the dates will give you my mob, or could ride up & RV on way down & show you a few views towars Harwich that peopol miss.

With the limited time, I suggest you focus on a "corner" of the UK.
Southcoast or the Yorkshire moores or the Peak District etc.
Otherwise you will only experience a "drive-trough" and not a deepfelt travelling vacation.
