Re: Scotland somewhere to camp
I've stayed at two in that area and both were nice enough camp sites, but the one at Shielbridge was very sheltered in the glen and near water, and so suffered the worst black clouds of midges that I have ever seen anywhere in Scotland and I've done a lot of camping in Scotland. Imagine dividing the air space into 1 inch square blocks of air, each block would have had 2 or 3 midges flying about in it. I was literally choking on them because every time I took a breath I inhaled several in.
The one at Portree the next night was great because it is exposed near the cliff top so quite breezy which means midges can't fly, but I have had one night there where I had to go out in the night to put in the storm pegs and in the morning ours was about the only tent left standing.
