I'll speak to my dealer on Monday to see what the score is re the forks - don't worry Spasm, I won't mention you!!
As yet, I've had no trouble with the forks, but I'm now on my second set of spokes and the new ones are dissolving away again after 6 months - the rims are just as bad and pitted. No wonder all the new bikes have coated rims....
Let us know how you get on anyway.

Re: super tenere 1200 news on fork seals
ok i called my dealer today to ask of any updates regarding the forks, he said yamaha were still sending one fork leg, so i asked for their number so i could speak to them about it.
so i call and ask them why they are only replacing one fork leg if they are faulty, the answer was this.
yamaha from time to time like to do research on faulty/ failed parts to see if theres any underlying issuse. in my case they wanted to replace the fork leg and have the old one sent back for analysis to see if its faulty. i told them i would rather have the old fork leg serviced and a new seal, as i was not happy to have one new and one old, as apart from the fact the springs may have different strengths and it may affect the handling, also the gold colours on the legs may be slightly different as the older one has been on the road 2 years.
so after a lot of talking to yamaha uk and my dealer, i told them i just wanted my forks serviced and new seals fitted on both. they agreed to do it. so its going in next week.
i just saved yamaha about £700 but im glad to keep my forks the same pair.
so to conclude it seems that there is no faulty forks out there, just someone made it sound like that when he explained it to me. what a load of old shit ehhh.

Re: super tenere 1200 news on fork seals
My bike was registered on the 25th January 2011 and it is not First Edition.
So not sure when the First Edition models finished.

Well that is a world away from what this dealer is supposed to have originally said. Either you seriously misconstrued what he actually said... or this dealer was talking complete bollocks. If it was the latter, I definitely wouldn't let someone that spreads scaremongering bullshit anywhere near my bike.spasm wrote:ok i called my dealer today to ask of any updates regarding the forks, he said yamaha were still sending one fork leg, so i asked for their number so i could speak to them about it.

Re: super tenere 1200 news on fork seals
When I decided to buy mine in 2011, the dealer offered me a red & white one, which obviously wasn't a first edition. I wasn't happy about having this colour and preferred the blue & silver. So they agreed to let me have the first edition model that they had in stock, and just removed all the extra's that I didn't want. I also like the fact its known as the first edition.Dark Knight wrote:My bike was registered on the 25th January 2011 and it is not First Edition.

I only kept the alloy bashplate that they threw in on the deal.

Re: super tenere 1200 news on fork seals
Tried to use Motoverse using my VIN to see when the bike was actually manufactured, it came back saying that the VIN was invalid.
It would have been manufactured in 2010, pretty sure my VIN is valid so not sure what is going on.
