I don't use my panniers because I would keep getting trapped where I park my bike at work. I squeeze behind a pillar that means the cars have to leave a bit of a space.
I think the big GS looks odd without its panniers on.
Why do people ride around with full luggage on all the time?

I can't understand it either, especially those who are just commuting in cities. I generally even take off my racks as that's an extra kilo of curry chips I can then eat
Re: Why do people ride around with full luggage on all the time?
I have sidecases & topbox, but they're only ever on my bike when i'm going to a rally for a few days. Any other time i just use a tailpack, which is more than enough for my flask, bottle of water and camera.
A mate of mine has a GSA and all three ally boxes are permanently attached to it. I think because they cost him a lot of dosh he feels they should always be on there, either to get his moneys worth or to just plain show off. Its bloody ridiculous.
I really dont see the point in it, it just makes your bike useless for filtering and creates needless drag.

Keep mine on for the same reason car owners have a boot.
Adventure motorcycling is a challenge for those who go but only a dream for those who stay behind.

Me too, and I am too lazy to take them off. Oh, and my nomadic lifestyle means I rarely have anywhere to put them.Mark1961 wrote:Keep mine on for the same reason car owners have a boot.

1. Because they can
2. Because they want to
3. Because they don'y give a sh*t whether it bothers somebody else.

bikes are about freedom not about justifying yourself to other bikers,
panniers on 100%
panniers on 100%
Re: Why do people ride around with full luggage on all the time?
Didn't use the panniers on the Tiger unless I needed them (shopping on the way home from work for instance) but kept the top box on to carry stuff in and useful to store the helmet, gloves etc in at work (precious little room at my desk). If just going for a ride then all the luggage came off (plently of room under the seat for waterproofs etc).
Now I've got the KTM and although I got some (2nd hand) pannier racks for free, no panniers or top box yet... currently commuting with a rucsac and littering the office with bike gear
So looking at getting a top box first, there was a KTM one (aka Hepco & Becker) on ebay this week but sold for almost the price of a new one :S
I think a call to Roger at Ard Cases is in order
