OK, I know it's not a bike question but I'm sure there are some camera tekkies out there . . .
Out of the blue my memory card seems to have gone awol - when I start the camera I just get a menu saying 'Power OFF' with another box to reformat the card. So if I select 'OK' to powere+ off the camera just switches itself off.
And of I select 'reformat' then I would lose all of the images on it - three irreplaceable days worh of my current tour of Spain!
So as I was on the road I bought a new card and am using that now - no problems.
But now I'm back at my Macbook and I thought I cold copy off the files direct from the card. But it says the card is unreraabler and should I reinitialise it - again, losing all the images!
What's wrong and - more to the point - how do I access and save my precious files!
Help please!!!

You could try it on a Windows Computer or may be another type of media storage such as a Vosonic but it sounds like the Data is corrupted and I fear to say, lost.
You could try a computer or data recovery shop but I bet it won't be cheap.

Hi Simon
You will need specialist software or a company specialising in this to retrieve the photos.
I'm more than willing to try and recover the images, if you post the card to me... no guarantees tho. I would make an image of the card, and restore the photos from that, so no harm should come to your media.

Sounds terminal , but you could try using (finder) on your macbook . If the card is listed (usually above hardrive) then click on it , if readable should find a few folders within , click into these folders until you find the pictures hopefuly. , if found select them alll and drag into iphoto .
Hopefully.

Hi Guys,
I think it's a bit of a dead loss but I'll try some recovery software I've got on my old iMac at home. If not I have a few professional contacs there who may bail me out. In the meantime there might be something I can try.
Thd big lesson is fort me not to be such a lazy dulk and download and back-up every night! A lesson there for us all I think!
The loss isn't a s great as it could have been as I've had a rest day and a pretty boring trip from one part of Spain to another - and it's not as if I'm an 'ace' photographer anyway
But it is a bit sad for the kind folks wh have nbeen following my Trip Report!
Thanks to all

Happend to me couple of years back.
Local camera shop took card and retrived photos on to DVD.
Reformated card in camera and all now fine.
Remember ... Once you have down loaded your photos, clean the card by re formatting IN CAMERA, not with PC. If you do this at every down load, it will help stability and life of the cards and should stop this happening again.

I always replace my card, and keep the original as photo back up, just in case of computer problems.
Re: Camera memory 'disaster' - any help appreciated!
I've used card recovery software that only cost me about 23 quid and it's worked every time, sometimes there are a few corrupted files, which may be the ones causing the problems anyway, a mate of mine accidentally deleted 1000 pictures and I was able to recover about 98% with this software.
