Paul, once you decide what you fancy doing, come over to my place and I'll do the handiwork for you. Amongst other things I am an electrician who's been messing about with autoelectrics for as long as I could drive. (the latter part being debatable  ) Maybe should read: 'since I had a licence...'

If you don't know where to place the socket, we can sort that out then too. If I make the Sunday meet we can chat then, otherwise PM me and we can take it from there.

PS, lots of good advice given already.

That USB socket looks neat, definitely better if you want more than one.

I'm never certain how to wire in extras so they only come on with the ignition, relays confuse me, so if you are like me I spotted THIS made by the same people as the panel mounted USB port above. If I'm reading it right it is a switch which senses when your alternator is producing power and only then switches on. There's stuff about delays for if you're at the lights, or stall, and it states it's particularly good for installations where the vehicle has a CANBUS (whatever that is).

Might be of interest to any wiring numpties like me.

The Hella type do hold in much better when riding....

The standard "Accessory" type are larger and more often than not the plugs have a spring in them which wiv vibration can push the plug out...

You can get short adaptors that will allow the standard plugs t' be a used if required.

If yer Bike be a fitted wiv an Optimate Charger socket... e-bay (Busters Same as M&P) Do an adaptor to plug into that wiv a standard "Accessory" Socket on the end....

You can fit yer cables wiv a plug that will go int' either type...

Mighty useful an no mistake......

sorry to be thick, can i confirm something?

Hella plugs are more secure but dont fit standard plugs...so my inflator, phone charger e.t.c wont fit a Hella plug UNLESS i buy a converter or chop of my standard plugs and replace them with ends that fit the Hella? is this correct?

You say there more secure....and this is even with the Hella to normal plug converter being used?

Just want to check before i order anything.

Cheers

Hey no problem.

Hella Plugs in Hella Sockets are more secure... (As there is (Usually) A spring clip which the end pushes into)....

Standard Accessory Socket / Plug combinations the Plug usually has a Spring Loaded end which pushes its self out of the socket...

So fer things needed whilst riding... (Heated Waistcoat, SatNav, SatMap. etc... the Hella set-up be more secure.....

For things not needed whilst on the move a standard accessory set up is OK. (Tent light, Pump an similar)...

A Hella to standard converter will give you the use of standard accessory plugged items tho they will always have a tendency to part company especially if moving....

The Hella to standard converter will stay in..... It is what you then plug into it which may then come out....

Hope that makes sense....

That is why most Heated clothing and GPS systems designed to be used when moving have Hella plugs on them....

Better not to chop off any plugs unless you want to use the item when riding.....

Then the Hella set up is a far better....

You can always Tape an accessory into a Hella / STD converter so it dont virbrate loose...

The converters come in many modes from a solid plug to ones wiv 20 or more mm of lead on them.... And are only a couple ov pounds each from e-bay or Amazon....

If you do chop off the STD Plug replace them with the Dual Hella / STD Plug...
So you can use either type of socket....

I have just received one of these and not only am I impressed with the kit itself, but also the fast delivery time. I also purchased the rubber sleeve to go over the usb plug to further keep out the water.
All in all a great item and real easy to fit, just waiting on a waterproof switch as its wired direct to the battery and I'm good to go.
Powers up my SatMap unit a treat, but yet to try my iphone on it.
I would definitely recommend it, although it may be possible to source something similar in the UK for less money.
