Scotland road map.

Post by Ubique 895 »

Hello,

In the process of starting to plan a trip to Scotland over the easter break with the Gf and it will be the first big trip away on the bike.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a map that we could spread out over a table to look over/draw a route on etc please.

Also any campsites,B&Bs and places that are "must visits" that people could recommend would also be greatly appreciated please.

Thank you!

:-)

Applecross.

But keep west, head to Stirling, A84, Fort William via Glencoe A82, then to Kyle of Lochalsh, absolutely stunning. It is that simple. Get to Applecross and back and you've seen plenty. If you have the time take a round trip to Skye, but you must go right round the island, the scenery is stunning at the northern tip.

This thread is likely to get plenty of responses, all of which will no doubt be good, but the north west is simply incredible. The pic is a taster.

I'm doing the same in June. On my new 1200GS which came today!! (I'm so in love !!)

Glencoe
Through Fort William then left to Applecross
Then A832,A835,A837,A894 and A838 to Durness
Durness to Dunnet Head
Then to Orkney at Gills Bay for two days around Orkney
Then Orkney to Tain
Tain to Oban
Oban to Home

Nice week I reckon loads of campsites or B and B if I'm feeling soft!

Can't wait!

Keep the coast as near as possible and you won't go far wrong. To help, Michelin maps show scenic roads with a green snake beside them. Even if they're not great riding roads, the scenery should be good.

Wherever you go, you will have a blast! I have travelled quite extensivley and never considered Scotland, until last September.
It was absolutely mind blowing. The road North of Aberdeen, A9 I think, was really nice up to John "O" Groats, but the road from John "O" Groats following the coast west back down to Ullapool was fantastic. And if you go in September you can meet up there for the ABR meet!

Cheers,
Paul

Just a reinforcement....

+1 for Applecross.

All the west coast.

Durness, if you have time to get there is pretty awesome.

Cheers for the responses so far. I've been upto Scotland twice, once was to skye both for climbing trips and just blasted up there and back to maximise climbing time. Looking forward to seeing what else Scotland has to offer. Here's to sun!
