thanks for the encouragement chaps. just found out the cheapest i can get full comp insurance is £700 for the year in Loughton Essex which is incredible. if i was back home in lincs it would be £300 for the year. i thought about cancelling the deal but really got my heart set on this bike now so had to bloody pay it. ouch!!

I switched to them after Bennetts tried to stiff me and saved loads & no silly questions about modifications.
There was a guy on ukgser from London in your shoes a while back who couldn't get his GS covered ...... He could once BMW insurance was suggested! Give 'em a try?

Yet I read a couple of weeks ago Lincolnshire was one of the worst motoring accident blackspots in the UK?
They just write the rule book up as they go along.
Enough of life's bloodsucking ticks and leeches, you are the proud owner of the finest motorbike to grace this earth. A bike that will get under your skin like nothing out of Nippon ever could ..... OK maybe there were a few in the 70s & 80s?
A machine that will thrill you on a dry sunny day BUT still get you home in warmth & safety when the going gets tricky.
Check your fuel pump controller (FPC) is the later black version. If it's the old silver type, get a spare or check out ADV Rider or UKGSER for the get home workaround lead.
Also change your shaft oil every 6k as BMW should hang their heads in shame at the whole sorry Final drive debacle. Although neither of the above have applied to me yet?
Apart from that just fill 'er up and have fun! Bit of spring sunshine in the air today, not too long now & the sky will be full of summer swallows again!

Well Rangooonruns here are my thoughts. The KTM SM was the best bike I have had for general use. Good and comfortable for bimbling along and mad when needed. I rode it in the Alps and the Pyrenees and loved the twisties. I did a track day last summer by the end in the novice group I had touched toes doen on both sides and in the novice group it did more than just keep up. Over crests the front wheel just loved to come up.
The Bmer, how did I manage on 80-100 mile fill ups, I rode for nearly three hours non-stop the other day and could have carried on as it was ultra comfortable. The wife can go on the back of the BMer, the KTM was a nightmare two up. If I try and ride the BMer like a KTM I hit the rev limiter, when the front wheel lifts the traction control kicks in but it does feel planted on the corners, a bit like a Honda Blackbird I used to have. Anyway, if you are still reading and haven't fallen asleep, I love the Bmer, I plan to do more touring, I can go with my wife (which allows me to go more often) and when I learn how to switch off the traction control all will be good. It fits what I want from a bike very well.
